We might even let Mike Ford into our secret little nominal consortium--although the only Fords that leap to mind are Fairlane and Prefect... (: Well, I can't speak for the band, but Jian always seems to end shows by mentioning their "grass roots" orientation, so I for one would be slightly disappointed if they got all legalistic about posting lyrics in a ng. And is ANY fruvous tune ever "complete"? They always seem to be subject to reworking to some degree--thank the fates! - -- Jeff Michael "Information gladly given, but safety requires avoiding unnecessary conversation."--Official notice on MUNI's Judah line, San Francisco ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 10 Oct 1998 05:27:36 GMT From: katrin@dimensional.com (Katrin Luessenheide Salyers) Subject: Re: Do it Rockapella! I just read this interesting article in the gusto of yesterday's (Oct.9) Buffalo News. It's about how Canadian bands have trouble "breaking the US" beacuse "the US industry doesn't know how to handle Canadian bands that don't conform to its disturbing flavor-of-the-month philosophy..." (i.e. Fruvous, the main reason for this post). I felt they made some valid points and had to share them. Susan Tanner, formerly with Bottom Line Records, said, "Fruvous is getting where they are now because they work so hard. They tour constantly. They believe in themselves and their fans believe in them." Almost equally as noteable, Hank Medress, co-founder and president of Bottom Line, insisted that it's not a Canadian thing, "...Radio is a joke, so you have to find alternative ways to present a band. The best way to present Moxy Fruvous is by having Moxy Fruvous present themselves," he says in reference to the band's entertaining live show.' I think that says it all. These people *do* know what they're talking about. :) Plus, the cover says "CLEARLY CANADIAN" and inside there's "CANADA ROCKS", both in nice big letters to be promptly cut out and put on my bedroom wall or in my locker at school. *grin* ->Summer ------------------------------ Date: 10 Oct 1998 05:48:58 GMT From: Bookrat Subject: Re: I-70 stuff (was: Re: colorado reviews- allan) Matt James (elrond@fellspt.charm.net) wrote: >It sounds very different then the very eastern end of I-70 near where >I live which just dead ends into the Baltimore beltway. (Near Fort Cove, halfway between the comparative metropolises of Beaver and Fillmore.) Should one find oneself heading westbound at this point, one may either head south on I-15 to Lost Wages and Lost Angels, or north on I-15 to Salt Lake City and then west on I-80 to Reno and SF. Much more scenic than either of those routes is the one straight west on US 50, "The Loneliest Highway in America", which includes a pass around Wheeler Peak (13,061 ft) in Great Basin National Park. I've never seen him so energetic during a set or come out from behind his mic so often to play at the front of the crowd!
