Here is my question: Where can I get more information about Da Vinci's Notebook? They have come reccommended to me by so many people now, I feel the urge to check them out. I thought I'd share some info about a great A Capella competition I attended last night with some friends. Where did I find out about it? The Moxy Fruvous concert, of course! That's where I met Jessika, a long-time Moxy fan, as well as the producer of the Northwestern A Capella competition. (Incedently, Jessika is also a close friend of the members of Da Vinci's Notebook! Yep, another reminder that the world is in fact quite small...) Of the groups that performed, my favorite by far was the Heebie-Jeebies. They were *wonderful*, very tight harmonies, and good stage presence. In fact, the first thing I thought when I saw them: "Hmmmm, I betcha *anything* these guys are Moxy Fruvous fans." After the show, the Heebie-Jeebies had a merch table set up so that you could buy stuff, and also talk to the band. Well, anyway the table was swarmed with people. My heart sank, because I wanted to have a long conversation with them. I wondered what I could do to get their attention. Eventually I pushed my way through the crowd- politely, of course :-)-and, "Um, exuse me, do you guys know Moxy Fruvous?" Well, I have never seen a group of heads shoot up and look at me so fast. "Moxy Fruvous?" they cried. "Moxy Fruvous? Of *course* we know Moxy Fruvous!!" They proceded to tell me about chatting with the boys when they were in Calgary. Apparently they had had a great time, and had exchanged e-mail addresses and CD's. One of the HJ's, named John, was especially vocal about their Moxy Fruvous connections. He told me about the Moxy covers they had done; King of Spain (no surprize there), and also the Gulf War Song. So anyways, we had a really great chat, and my friends and I all got our newly aquired merchendise signed. One of the guys signed my CD, "We ain't no Moxy Fruvous, but we try!":-)! So anyway, here enlies my plug for the day: HEAR THE HEEBIE JEEBIES. SEE THE HEEBIE-JEEBIES. They are pure A Capella at it's best. They have two CD's out: "Hurry up and wait", and "Waiting under the Mistletoe". They are based in Calgary, but last year they made a few very successful ventures into the U.S. I *do* have more info, but I won't post it,because probably no one is reading this anymore anyway:-). That's it for my (slightly) off-topic post. I realize that it isn't pure, 100% Moxy Fruvous content, but many MF fans also seem to like A Capella in general, so I thought some of you might find this interesting. Take care, Gabby ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 04 Oct 1998 15:19:15 GMT From: w9sz@prairienet.org (Zack Widup) Subject: Urbana roll call I don't know if anyone has asked this yet (I don't see any recent postings about it) but who is going to make it to the Urbana show on Tuesday 10/6? (I have my ticket in hand, and also one for Chicago 10/10 at Martyr's.) The show here is not at Mabel's this time, but rather at a new club called The Canopy in Urbana (used to be the Thunderbird Theater). Well, they have a web site at http://www.davincisnotebook.com where you can get tour dates, their CD, and other info. The CD is really great... blew me away the first time I heard it. My only complaint with it is that it's really short. jordan, who has the CD but has never seen them live - -- "I'm a meathead. I can't help it, man. I couldn't have said it better. My friends are always so amazed at the fact that Fruvous goes out of their way to interact with their fans. When I took my friend to see them at XPN's singer-songwriter weekend this year, she went to get stuff signed, and she just kept saying how she couldn't believe how nice they were. I've met them three times after shows, and no matter how many people there are, they really do take time to make everyone feel important. Even if it gets to the point where they have so many people coming to their shows that hanging out afterward is no longer an option (which seems unlikely, not because they don't have a lot of people coming to the shows now, but when they played in King of Prussia this August, there were somewhere between 3 and 4,000 people there, they announced that they would be hanging around to sign stuff and say hello), I think we should also consider the other things that they do that most bands don't, to show their fans how much they appreciate us. There really are not that many bands that are so nice about people taping their shows, and if you consider it, a lot of bands don't even really want you taking pictures at their shows. Also, how many bands care enough about their fans to do something like the Frumiles card? It's their way of saying "We appreciate all of you faithfully coming to see us, and we want to give you something extra in return." I consider myself very, very lucky that pretty much all of the bands I listen to are good to their fans, but I think that Fruvous goes way beyond what most people hope for, so we should be very grateful to them for it. love Lizzie ------------------------------ End of alt.music.moxy-fruvous digest V1 #721 ********************************************
