See, it's become a bit like asking for a Band-Aid instead of a bandage or a Kleenex instead of a tissue. Of course, then you get situations like this: Waitress: "What will you have to drink?" Customer: "I'll have a Coke." Waitress: "What kind of Coke?" Customer: "A Pepsi." Brett A. Jus' so ya know... (A.J. quickly checks the printed lyrics in in Bargainville, that he's never actually read before) Oh, um yeah, I guess you are right. It does SAY "panned" there. That is funny, because for the longest time I assumed it was PANNED (because that makes more sense), but after years of carefully watching Jian sing that song I came to the conclusion that I was wrong, and what he sings is BANNED. Of course as someone pointed out P and B are awfully close. I think part of my confusion is the way he puts the stress on the word "formerly" as if to differentiate "banned" from "formerly banned". If he were singing PANNED, logically he should stress "formerly BANNED" to differentiate it from "Panned" (Still with me?) OTOH, Jian may be singing it differently now than he did on the record. He very well may have even changed the lyric since I believe his artistic license is still current. :D A.J. - -- _____ _ / ____(_) | | _ ___ ___ _ __ ___ | | | |/ __/ _ \ '__/ _ \ | |____| | (_| __/ | | (_) | \_____|_|\___\___|_| \___/ @wwnet.com ICQ#: 13117113 ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 03 Oct 1998 20:11:22 GMT From: "A.J. In the impossible dream realm, I'd vote for Bed and Breakfast, but more realistically I think I'd like to hear It's Too Cold or Down From Above. It has FAR too long since they've played those. (at least for me). On Lisa's behalf I can tell you that her dream song would be the reinstatement of the Darlington Darling---->Jocky medly. She used to love that! Okay, in a trip to my friendly neighborhood mall, I happened to stop in the music store to check out the CDs. Quite naturally, I stopped by to take a peek at Live Noise, as I've been trying to figure out just how many copies I can get for Christmas presents for folks ;-) Now, I just checked out the CD last week. There was no sticker on it last week. -This- week, however, Live Noise has one of those little black and white 'parental advisory' stickers. I'm wondering what happened. Maybe someone at The Wall, in anticipation of the show in Delaware (YAY!), listened to it and decided that it merited the sticker? Anybody else noticed the parental advisory sticker? I mean... I guess I can see why; my husband pointed out that parents might not want their kids listening to a comment about a "f****ing bestiality nut", but, hey, that bit also talks about Sesame Street. ;-) Jess (Who will be going to the shows in Baltimore -and- Wilmington. Two in one week, yay!) ------------------------------ Date: 3 Oct 1998 21:59:02 GMT From: dalevy@aol.com (DALevy) Subject: Re: Parental advisory? I've seen the parental advisory stickers on most of the copies of Live Noise that I've seen in stores, which makes me think that BMG (the distributor) puts them on, not the stores. In Canada, it's a cool bilingual warning. And it's probably a good idea. (I've heard that one of the band members even took to personally warning one friend of mine about some of the language when he realized that his kids, with him at the time, were likely to listen to the disc he was about to buy.) From my point of view, the label isn't a bad thing at all. It's far better for parents or others to know it's coming so that they can screen it and decide the appropriate way of handling whether it's suitable for kids. SO: Anyone have a ticket up for grabs for 10/31? And I just got an email from a friend I'd told to get his tix right away (not knowing Halloween was sold out) and it sounded like he was saying both are already sold out. Whether or not they both are, though-- WOOHOO! Congrats to Fruvous, selling out the Iron Horse a month in advance! I don't know 'bout the rest of y'all, but I think that really says something. *smile* cee ------------------------------ End of alt.music.moxy-fruvous digest V1 #717 ********************************************
