The sounds "b" and "p" are linguisticly close, so it is not surprising that they would be confused in such a context. For those who absolutely MUST know, they are both bilabial stops, but "b" is voiced (uses the vocal cords) and "p" is voiceless (vocal cords aren't used). I'll shut up now. - -- Trace gemini@p3.net "They're like Robin Williams singing, times 4." -Anonymous comment about Fruvous overheard in the 8th & Market subway station in Philadelphia following the 1998 Singer/Songwriter Festival. ~~I am Fruhead. The Word and Picture Museum on Main Street is cool if you're into graphic novels and the like and I don't think it costs very much (that is unless you go crazy in the gift shop). Also, it'll be a bit cold but there is lots of pretty nature around in both the Pioneer Valley and in the so-called mountains (I love them but the Berkshires really don't count as mountains.) I will probably be spending the day running around the Great Barrington area seeing all of the wonderful people I left behind when I moved back to D.C. but in the event that I'm not, I will probably just um around NoHo - it's a great little town. Loren who misses the Berkshires more than she cares to admit right now :( ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 01 Oct 1998 20:36:48 GMT From: cricket5@hotmail.com Subject: Re: Medeski Martin & Wood - was Re: San Francisco review! I had been thinking for a really long time that i should subscribe to this, and I finally did. So obviously this is my first post. >In the not-quite-mondegreen category, I had to read the Web site >lyrics to >figure out "trail of aching derrieres" in "Kick in the Ass." It had >always sounded to me like just one word, "tralovachen," and I had no >idea >what that was supposed to refer to. I thought for the longest time that it was "trail a vacant derriere," and I really couldn't figure it out. I have two other ones, too. Actually, they are my dad's (and he still sings the songs wrong, just to be annoying, but...): from 'Gotta Get A Message to You', "it's only her love that keeps me wearing this shirt" and from 'the Lazy Boy', "Here I sit and here i stand" (my dad had this whole explanation about taking a stand concerning lazy boys, but anyway...) I also have a question. Would anyone possibly be willing to make me a copy of a tape of a recent show? Any show, really. I just want to be able to listen to the new songs, because i can't remember how any of them go, and i need to play GE&H for my friend who i recently managed (sort of accidently) to get completely obsessed with the band. I don't have anything to offer in return, but i would send you postage and a blank tape, or whatever. Anyway, before this gets any longer than it already is... love Lizzie ------------------------------ End of alt.music.moxy-fruvous digest V1 #706 ********************************************
