George - >From the laundering master: With clothes that are not properly dyed, you can further set the dye by soaking the shirt in a solution of vinegar and cold water for a while (you know, just sort of go with the flow. Some water, some vinegar, some time). When washing this shirt, wash only with LIKE colours, or by itself in COOOOOLD water. Warm water opens up the fibres and releases the dye. Your best bet is probably to wash it by hand in the sink using a delicate soap like Woolite for the first few washes. Once the shirt appears to be retaining it's colour, you can wash it with other stuff, but maintain the coldest wash, and try to keep the colours in the same part of the spectrum (like, say, greens or something). To dry, you may want to hang dry (I drape everything over my shower curtain rod). DO NOT place on a hanger and hang dry, because the added weight of the water will pull the shirt down, thereby stretching out the shoulders and weakening the stitching. Usually, I squeeze the excess water out by rolling the soaked item into an old towel and stepping on it (no joke). You make it like a jelly roll: towel flat on the floor, shirt on top, then roll from one end. Now, step! Then, rotate 45 degrees (not you, the roll) and step some more. Then, hang to dry in the manner stated above. If you chose to use your dryer, use a low heat setting and tumble it with like colours. TURN THE SHIRT INSIDE OUT IF YOU WANT TO SAVE THE SILKSCREENING! Because of the way the paint sits on the fibres of the shirt, excessive abuse will cause it to crack and eventually flake. You can reduce the likelihood of this by turning the shirt inside out when both washing and drying (*especially* drying). That's about it. I love laundry. I've been doing laundry for YEARS. Hey, when you own in excess of ninety tee shirts, several of which are "valuable" to you (like all five of my TMBG shirts), you learn to do it right. Stains are no match for my powers. I can make waffles, bagels, etc, and to make it more interesting I would serve it with those yummy syrups and jellies bought in Maine (examples, "Raspberry ChampagneApricot") And what would we watch? If you want your colors to stay longer, wash in cold, it does less damage than hot or warm (but doesn't clean as well). BTW: I can vouch for the blue def. T, its held up quite nicely under the stress of several washings. Can't believe I am giving laundry tips. I love that city. But I'm in NYC and wanted to let you all know about a guy that I've seen perform here in town a few times. His name is Rob Paravonian and he's originally from Chicago, been here in NY for about 2 years. He is a musician comedian, titles his stuff "intelligent comedy through music" and could be a brother to Murray (only with dark hair). So yes, he is good-looking. Ok, now that I have your attention...he writes original music but with a humorous bent. One of my fav songs is called "Pachobel" (sp), about the famous composer. Rob has a new CD coming out called "American Cheese" and it can be purchased online thru his website: www.paravonian.com. He has a show called "New and Improved York" playing Saturday nights at the Solo Arts Group in Manhattan thru November & December. Please check him out; I promise you won't be disappointed. I gave him a Moxy Fruvous "Live Noise" cd the week after I first saw him perform, because I believe he might have been the fifth lost member. Enjoy! Victorria Johnson ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Sep 1998 16:48:30 -0600 From: "Gabby" Subject: Gabereau Live Moxy Fruvous appeared briefly on Gabereau Live yesterday. The show opened showing the four guys singing "Message" out on the street. Then Vicki (sp?) came walking along, and basically said, "Gee, you guys sound pretty good. How'd you like to be on my show this morning?" (this was all completely pre-planned, of course. Ha Ha.) So the Fru-lads went in and played Michigan Militia. Then Vicki went on to her other guests, but Moxy Fruvous re-emerged right at the end to play "Fly". Musially the guys seemed to be quite on, but they seemed to feel kind of uncomfortable and tense. This is probably because Vicki didn't give them a chance to say much. She talked briefly with them at the end, but basically she was putting her own pre-planned sound-bytes into their mouths. She made a big fuss about the name "Moxy Fruvous", saying "No one really has any idea in hell what Moxy Fruvous means!" Right. Now *there's* an original thing to ask the band about :-|! She also mentioned that the band had many "devoted fans" called Fruheads, and that was about it for their conversation. The best part was the ending credits, when the guys sang a song about Vicki Gabereau to the tune of "the Brady Bunch" theme song. It's always great to see them doing something a bit different, so I enjoyed that. All in all, I must say I would have enjoyed watching it more if I could have deleted Vicki Gabereau off of my tape. (If you're getting the sense that I don't really like Vicki Gabereau, you would be correct. I hope I'm not insulting anyone by saying this. Knowing my luck, Vicky's probably the aunt or best-friend of someone on this newsgroup :-). I will now end this slightly off-topic parenthesis.) Take care, Gabby ------------------------------ End of alt.music.moxy-fruvous digest V1 #691 ********************************************
