I have tix to an exhibition hockey game between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Detroit Red Wings this Saturday, and I just found out through our local newspaper that performing the nation anthem before the game will be none other than the Barenaked Ladies. Hearing BNL sing "The Star Spangled Banner" may not be the highlight of the year, but is pretty cool anyways. I've seen Phish do this before, who will be next? Fruvous? Here's another non-fruvous announcement for all the BNL and/or hockey fans out there: The Barenaked Ladies will be singing the national anthem for the afternoon Flyers-Red Wings game on Saturday, Oct. 3. (The BNL will be in Philly playing at the First Union Center that night.) Now, since neither of these teams are from Canada, they won't actually be singing THEIR national anthem or even for their home team; but hey, why quibble over the details, right? They have a section in the front of the building that doubles as a restaurant. Liek Most taverns in Wisconsin, the whole family might come out to the bar & eat dinner. So you may be able to sit around, have dinner & then casually walk into the main bar area. Who knows it may work. The owner, "Moose" is usually the guy that stands at the door & takes the money for shows. Since The Club Tavern is not a campus area bar, they may not card at the door. I've never been carded there myself (for what its worth.) I guess it's worth the drive to find out, as long as your drive isn't too far. For those who like seeing shows in bars, you can be assured that the Club Tavern has good local beers on tap & choice imports. Ouch and yeeeeeeech. > actually, it was mike who broke the string. it was during psycho killer when he was playing hardcore and the string broke. he tried to rip the string outta the guitar and that's when it lodged itself into the joint in his finger. the amazing thing was that he kept playing the song during that, string in finger, and slamming through the end of psycho killer. when he ran off stage with the guitar in hand, i thought that they wouldn't come back out after that ... i asked mike about it after the show, and apparently he didn't feel a thing. when tobey pulled the string out, he couldn't even feel that. they put a bandage on his finger and he played on. what a guy.
