I'm not a big drinker (ask any of my friends, and they'll tell you how often I volunteer to drive), but I like to drink and I like the anthropological workshop every packed bar provides! Also, I like Fruvous, and when they com to my town, they don't play in a coffee shop or the Elks Lodge! They play in a bar that used to be a rent-to-own store! Many fans are underage, and many Fruvous fans are tee-totallers or generally opposed to drunken culture. Unfortunately, performance spots without liquor licenses cease to be performance spots after a while, because they have to be open when bands aren't palying as well so they can pay for rent. The original author mentioned "whatever happened to concerts?" I think a safe answer is "Fruvous is eesentially a fan band". Six thousand people will turn out for a Marilyn Manson show in a city where it's hard to get two hundred Frus in a room, but not all six thousand will proceed to the next stop on the tour. A big crowd won't be choosey about the band that gives them their laser-light and mosh pit requirements for the season. I'd go on, but I'm sure you stopped reading already. - --don't beg... okay, beg. Dante ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Sep 1998 05:50:31 GMT From: "Victor E. I'd be interested in hearing about dinner plans too if folks would be willing to put up with a another Fru-show virgin. Hello newbie Neil (obligatory pointer to http://www.fruvous.com where all your Fruvous wishes and dreams come true) Erm, lyrics to Present Tense Tureen? Well speaking as somebody who is completely wrong brained I have two interpretations... Firstly, there is no such thing as the present tense. `Now' is never `now' because as soon as you say now, its no longer now, its gone and become past tense. If you see what I mean. Also consider that when I type `now' its not my `now' for you reading it. (Particularly as my `now' is probably about 3am in the US.) Confused? Anyway `circumstances eat themselves'; time goes on relentlessly, continually eating up the past to become the now, which immediately becomes the past. `Fill your empty bowl up at the present tense tureen'; so if the present tense tureen contains your possible immediate futures, then you fill up your own bowl of `now' from the tureen of possible present tenses. BUT! It turns out the present tense tureen is empty. Either a) because of the above argument about there being no present tense, or b) because of my second interpretation... ing hell was all *that* about? Its a song about elves you fool. Go back to writing Cchhaadd posts.' Unabashed I continue...> Secondly I think it may be a warning against fatalism, the belief that everything is preordained and various forms of quackery. The elf cannot solve the hero's relationship problems magically, just as astrology, crystal healing, feng shui or Oprah Winfrey can't. Its up to the hero and partner to sort out their problems, not expect some mystical external source to do it for them. <`Utter bilge' mutters everyone, `its a song about the undesirable consequences of rampant consumerism in the soup market.' `You're probably right.' I concede.> Pip pip Richard - ------------------------------------------ - -- Chandler, just go and ask her out. - -- No. - -- What's the worst thing that can happen? - -- I might die. - ------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: 24 Sep 1998 12:12:07 GMT From: zardsnod@aol.com (ZardSnod) Subject: Re: Return of the Je...er, Thrawn! >For those of you who remember me, HI!
