I mean, I can certainly enjoy it, only I still don't know all the words to Pisco, and I should be now. Pisco is such a good Murray song... I feel guilty not to pay more attention to it! (not to mention that I feel down-right silly ;) The amazing thing about this is, it's reached Winnipeg! (Yes I just > came from 4 1/2 hours of English classes how could you tell?) Hey, I hadn't thought about it that way... makes the whole dance kind of relevant... Vika has a good point here, however, for those who unwittingly abuse in the other direction, let me add: Please only quote what is necessary to understand the gist of the thread, and/or the point you are making. Nothing is as tiresome as scrolling through 3 layers of fully quoted replies only to see a one line response at the bottom. In particular, pretty please don't quote someone's entire show review just to add or respond, unless you are going to do an extensive reply interspersed paragraph by paragraph. Of course I know most of of you all know this stuff, but it still happens a fair amount, so I just thought I'd mention it. /endgripe Thanks. A.J. Make sure to check out FDC (http://www.fruvous.com) for information on tours and reviews and article and such. As much as buying an album gives you a taste of Frvuous, seeing a live show shoves the whole thing down your throat (but in a good way =) 2) Hmmmmm. Recommendations. Really, it depends on who you are (that's a bad answer isn't it?). Now that Live Noise is out, I recommend it to people first. You did say Studio album, but I'll ignore that and say that Live Noise is really great. Other than Wood, Live Noise is the Fru-CD I listen to most often. It is long and has a wide range of music. But since you said Studio.. Here's some expansion on the "it depends on who you are" thing. Bargainville is good if you live upbeat music that ranges in complexity a lot but is still primarily vocal based. It is a good intro to the band and, to me, the best reason to get it first is to see the evolutionary wonder that is Moxy Fruvous. The first album is has many of the songs that are considered core fruvous. Things like the Drinking Song and Spiderman. More or less the songs the annoying drunk fraternity guy yells out for any chance he can get. For the record, I started with Bargainville. Wood is a good starter if you are in it for the music and as a side thing enjoy the laughs and intelligent lyrics. Wood is deep musically and is my favorite album. I go back to listen to Wood because the Wood studio disc gives me things I usually don't get at live shows. Also, Wood's subject matter is very personable for a lot of us because it is more about real people and relationships and whatever it is you think the Present Tense Tureen is about. I love Wood and I'm always ready to hear a Wood live show where they open with Down From Above and keep going (note that now the impenetrable wall that is Misplaces has been broken down a couple times, they can go farther - what's the next wall? Bed & Breakfast? Murray...). "b", in my opinion, isn't a good starter disc. For one things, it is an EP, so you don't get lotsa music. For another thing, it isn't musically heavy. Mostly, it is a collection of some witty intelligent upbeat tunes with specific subject matter that makes the tunes not fit on a studio album with a purpose. I'm not NOT recommending "b" though. If someone loves the witty intelligent stuff, likes the humourous songs and such, "b" is great for them. Then you can ease them into Bargainville, weening them off the quirky. Then give them Moon and they'll just like Kick in the Ass =) Now, we come to my recommendation. I would say "Get Moon" to most people, if they just wanted a studio album. Moon has what Bargainville has, but more. It is more musically complex and can keep you busy longer if you love to sit and listen seriously to the music. I can get bored with Bargainville because I can musically understand it quickly. Moon is tougher. Moon also carries a wide range of styles and instruments. So, anyways, there's my recommendation to you. Hey, are you the Metal Man from the TMBG newsgroup? I used to read that, but got away from it when the content dragged extremely low... - Chad ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 Sep 1998 15:01:11 GMT From: "Wood, Nancy" Subject: RE: New Moxy fan -- recommendations? I think that's how most TMBG and Fruvous fans start up these days -- by recommendations from the other fan-base. Ross Dickinson (he asked a question about Live Noise) came from there too.
