My dorm hall was putting together a mix tape and everyone was to put one song on it. My friend put on this song called "King of Spain" by a funny sounding group called Moxy Froibous (spelled like that on the tape) which she had on a mix tape of hers. No one knew anything else about these guys, but I loved that song. When I got home, I started looking for a CD of theirs with KoS on it (let me just tell you how long it took with that spelling). When I finally found FRUVOUS's Bargainville, I fell in love with the beatiful harmonies and witty lyrics. The fact that they were singing about a lot of issues I agreed with was great too. Then they played a free show and I said "what the hell, these guys sound good"....well, after that first show the rest is pretty much history. > what's your favorite song by Fruvous IiiiEEEE!!! where to start!!! Gulf War Song, Fly, KoS, Horseshoes, Your new boyfriend, No No Raja, River Valley, Greatest Man in America...ok, that's it for now. > Who's your favorite non-Fruvous band or artist Billy Joel, REM, Sting, Tracy Chapman, RENT > Whom would you most like to see open for Fruvous TMBG - what a show that would be!!!! > Whom would you like to see Fruvous open for truthfully, no one. Fruvous sound is so unique that to hear them and then to sit through someone else that's twice as long..one almost forgets the opening act....then again, this is Fruvous we're talking about....but it would also shorten their set :-( > What's one thing you DON'T LIKE about Fruvous ...........shows seems to fly by way too fast!!!!! > what's the greatest thing about this newsgroup friendly and helpful fru-folk who welcome anyone!!!! They asked us if we were US citizens. I said no, and they made me show them my green card (which is actually pink, but oh well). She said yes, and they didn't ask her for anything. On the way back into the US, the agent didn't want any ID, but did ask several times if we had purchased anything in Canada that we were bringing back to the US. I told her I had few dozen cans & bottles of Coke & Dr. Pepper, and she asked if that was all at least twice. For the record, yes, we're both white and we don't have unusual accents. A few months later, I drove into California. All out of state cars were required to go through a set of booths on the side of the highway, where a bored man asked me in a monotone whether I was bringing any fruits, vegetables, or nuts into their state. I said no, and the a minute later realized that I had a little can of mixed nuts in the trunk. Oh well, sorry California :) The previous time I was in Canada was years ago, with my family. We flew to Calgary, and back, so we didn't drive across the border to get there. However, while we were there, we did cross the border one day to visit Glacier National Park, in Montana. On the way back into Canada, the customs people confiscated my lemons (which, incidentally, we had brought with us from Canada that morning!). This incident has been immortalized and made famous through all those copies of the moxy fruvous 1996 WBRS show some people have been spreading around :) Richard B wrote: > Actually I heard that Smarties (Canadian/UK variety) couldn't be exported to > the the States because the colouring contained something the States > considers a prohibitive substance. A hideous slander on US customs perhaps? I heard it was because the American smarties got the trademark first, so no other company is allowed to sell candies called "smarties" in the US. -- Cos (Ofer Inbar) -- cos@leftbank.com cos@polyamory.org -- The Left Bank Operation -- lbo@leftbank.com http://www.leftbank.com/ "We don't want your infected citrus, America!" -- moxy fruvous ------------------------------ Date: 10 Sep 1998 19:35:08 GMT From: starfox@Bacon.Eggs.And.NOSPAM.nationwide.net (Starfox) Subject: Re: CBC Midday Interview - 8/31/98 Chad Maloney wrote: : So, what, are the interviewers reading show reviews now? *grin* I still think Jian seriously over estimates the size of the crowd at Ft. But as I spent most of my time right up against the stage, alternatively enjoying myself immensely, or fearing for my very life... Depending on what Fruvous happened to be playing. ;) Who knows...
