I love 'da Fruv. They'z cool, and I've been a fan ever since I first saw them at the Gloucester Fair, in Ottawa, in the late 80s (this was before Bargainville .. to give you an idea, Maestro Fresh-Wes also played the fair). Unfortunately, I don't have the time or resources to be a rampant FruFan and follow them from show to show. However, after seeing many "megaconcerts", I still strongly believe that Fruvous puts on the best live show, period. No flashy lights, just damned good entertainment. But I digress ... I've seen Fruvous live only four times, partially for the reasons stated above and partially for bad timing. I'm always in Ottawa when they play my school's hometown (Kingston) and vice versa. I saw them: * on Bargainville tour * in Stages, a local club * at the National Library of Canada * at the Kingston Folk Festival Fruheadmania hadn't really started for the first two shows (they still weren't all that huge in the States then) and I'd no complaints about fans. The National Library Show was pretty intimate and last minute, and a few Fruheads showed up but weren't rowdy at all. I was working security at the Kingston Folk Festival (I mean, c'mon, Gowan AND Fruvous were there!) and was eager to see the boys live again after their last Kingston gig had been canned due to a sick Fruv. Earlier in the day I went to the merch. tent to get a new T-Shirt to replace my (very) faded Bargainville tour shirt. While I was overcome with joy to find that they'd resurrected the "Definition of Fruvous" tshirt design, I met the travelling Fruheads that were there. They were very nice, friendly, open ... but a touch pushy. I felt like I *had* to buy something lest I not be as worthy a fan. Things got worse when the show started. The Fruheads, who I know weren't out to do this intentionally, pissed a lot of people off. I listened to the crowd and heard a lot of people get a little ticked at the fact that these people were yelling and screaming, and flaunting the fact that they knew the band personally. The general feeling I was able to gather from my friends who were there with me was that they felt as if they weren't worthy to be there. Anyways, I don't mean to spark the ire of the Fruheads ... I know yer all nice people, but you might want to remember that you're not the ONLY fans at the show, and some neophytes may be intimidated by you. mike, who seriously belives that you only hurt the ones you love. - ----------------- "It's all just 'blah, blah, blah'." -- the essence of our world, as described by a 7 year old ------------------------------ Date: 2 Sep 1998 01:16:17 GMT From: wbsmiles@aol.com (Wbsmiles) Subject: Re: Where have all the Fruheads gone? >I just opened this NG on September 1 at 12:53 EDT and found it empty! This type : of situation could end up hurting the band. Wow, you are laying the flame-bait on fairly strong today! Nevertheless, I fully disagree with you. Those of us who follow the band around are certainly not rude or disrespectful as a whole, and we don't get in the way of the people who are new to seeing the band. Not to speak for the band, but I'd hazard a guess that if the audience is offended by the fact that Fruvous has loyal and excited fans, then they are playing the wrong place. And as for the locals hating the "loud and obnoxious" fans at these type of shows, I've found the opposite. They seem to be amused that we are so enthusiastic about them. Like when I was pulling into Burk's Falls and they already knew my name (and later asked if they could take pictures of my "FRUVOUS" license plate). Anyone there who walked away with a bad impression of Fruvous did so because they didn't like the music (or because they used the word "Ass" repeatedly *grins*) As for Mr. Chopper, I wasn't there, but I don't care what he's the granddaddy of. What he did was assholish. - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Josh Woodward, CheEsy Fru. joshw@mail.bgsu.edu Web Site and Tape List: http://www.dc-adnet.com/joshw/ "Fly Southwest Airlines." -- Moxy Fruvous ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 01 Sep 1998 21:33:08 -0400 From: "ellen p. buckley" Subject: Re: yet another newbie post! Nicole, you're in San Jose, right? Did watching waaaaay too much Square One involve doing the Channel 9 to 32 to 60 to 54 to 9 hop to watch the same episode five times in a row on a weekday afternoon? Each afternoon? If not, then you need to strike some "a"s. But, alas, the show has been toast for years; the only cast member who seems to have emerged with a career is Reg E. Cathey ("rainbow twinkie fluid"). Only a couple people I know burst out laughing when they see him alongside Morgan Freeman in Se7en. > --nicole the "to cogitate and to solve" wonder nerd > who also used to like 3-2-1-Contact, but not so much after the > Bloodhound Gang disappeared. Oddly enough, after Square One died, the fairly autonomous Mathnet section was moved into 3-2-1 Contact!'s line-up, being the same sort of show-ending serial that Bloodhound Gang had been years before. - --brian ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 02 Sep 1998 02:12:29 GMT From: BBWMinors@aol.com Subject: Re: hopefully not goodbye In a message dated 98-09-01 22:03:28 EDT, you write: << Only a couple people I know burst out laughing when they see him alongside Morgan Freeman in Se7en. >> ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 01 Sep 1998 23:16:48 -0400 From: Chad Schrock Subject: Re: Musical stuff...
