You'll probably get hit with the welcome wagon really quick, but I'll sneak in before they get here and say Hi! Good to hear you like the discs, you'll especially love live shows. Obligatory pointer to the archive of all things Fruvous, http://www.fruvous.com (and durnit, I KNOW I got that URL right). That is a website kept in the loving care of Chris O'Malley, resident godsend and all around great guy (with a trendy butt to boot). Of course exactly where he is resident right now, I'm not sure, but anyways, I digress. Also, just in case CD Universe didn't know it, there are two more Fruvous albums, "b" (an EP not a full album) and Wood. Fruvous' label in the US is trying really hard to get them released and Kevin (from the label) said they are trying for October. You can get those discs at shows too or order them directly from the band (though that takes awhile). There info on ordering at www.fruvous.com (FDC for those in the know). > I haven't seen them in concert yet...I'm from northern VA, and when they were > last here, I was out of the country :-P Hopefully they'll come back soon. > I've been lurking here for a while (both before and after I went away for the > summer) and am just amazed at how wonderfully nice and friendly everyone seems! > Well, now I've introduced myself :-) Well, you are in luck! Northern VA is a good place. They play the new Birchmere in Alexandria and if you travel a bit, Baltimore and Philly. Just keep checking FDC's Tour Dates page for when the band is coming near you (where you define near of course). The page is as up to date as the band is most times. > Currently resides at: http://i.am/not_your_broom Hee hee. Great page name! You'll find a good number of TMBG crossovers in here. Thanks for delurking! - Chad (who hopes there are no errors in this post because he is sick of posting Thank Yous for corrections =) ------------------------------ Date: 28 Aug 1998 14:55:36 GMT From: affannat@mail1.sas.upenn.edu (Kelly D Affannato) Subject: Re: yet another newbie post! OK, next time I'll read ALL THE WAY to the end of a thread before opening my big mouth... Nope. Working in an office all summer earns me - well, enough for my university tuition, and that's about it. No eating, no where to live, you get the general idea. Oh well, I love being at school, so I can't really complain about it to much (but man, can I whine!) :P I would love to spend the summer working over there. i have dual citizenship to the country, so I've been thinking about it for sometime, but sometimes the more you think about something, the less you try to make it happen. Oh, and no fair with all this talk of Guinness when I'm at work... people look at me funny when I start to whimper! :) Veronica (who is only somewhat remorseful to be boring each and every one of you with her ramblings) - -- ***************************************************************************** And in the end | Veronica Gruneberg The love you take | Dept. of Biology Is equal to the love | Queen's University You make... | Kingston, Ontario ------------------------------ Date: 28 Aug 1998 13:32:03 GMT From: Gruneberg Veronica J <6vjg@qlink.queensu.ca> Subject: Re Darlington Darling & covers/unreleased I knew living in this god forsaken area all my life would one day come in handy... Darlington, Ontario is a little spot on the map which is more or less an extension of Oshawa. (to anyone who even vaguely knows what this area is like, should be explanation enough) There are two things for which Darlington is known 1) a really neat provincial park and 2)the nuclear power plant. It is this power plant this song is talking about. (..half a mile, from the cooling towers...) Oshawa is indeed home to General Motors (it's where the first Canadian GM plant was built). The greatest number of jobs around here (without commuting to Toronto, which is only a half hour away) are blue-collar, on-the-line types of jobs. It's kinda hard to describe, but if you come visit the area I'll give you the guided tour. Oh, and Scugog is a little man-made lake (part of the Trent-Severn Water system which connects cottage country to Lake Ontario) just north of Oshawa (sort of Port Perry-ish). It's a really nice lake, pretty shallow, and there are areas which have really nice, HUGE, expensive cottages and summer homes on them (and then there's the rest of the lake...) And thus the guided tour of Darlington ends. If you're ever driving by this area on the 401, be sure to look for the plant - it's right by the highway, on the right hand side if you're east-bound (I sing a verse every time I drive by) :) Veronica (who will now impose a word-quota on herself) - -- ***************************************************************************** And in the end | Veronica Gruneberg The love you take | Dept. of Biology Is equal to the love | Queen's University You make... | Kingston, Ontario ------------------------------ Date: 28 Aug 1998 13:01:55 GMT From: Gruneberg Veronica J <6vjg@qlink.queensu.ca> Subject: Re: WOWZA! Oooohhh... Connemara!! Absolutely beautiful (and very close to my family, too) Really, it's just such a beautiful country, you won't be disappointed with anything you see. And be sure to visit a lot of little pubs along the way. Now, I'm not telling you to drink a whole lot at each one (last time my family did about 50 pubs in 2 weeks, with a drink - even ginger ale counted - in each one) It's just that this is where you're going to see a lot of the country the way it is, rather than the whole "tourist" thing.
