It's true that some places are really reasonable... I remember when I was thirteen or fourteen, Ray Davies was playing at Mama Kin in Boston and my uncle was working sound, so he got me a comp. Of course I didn't realize it was 21+ at the time, but all I had to do was tell them how I got the ticket and why I was there and they let me in. On the other hand, when I was sixteen and in Dublin (where the drinking age is 18, so the difference between my age and the legal age was a lot less than it was at Mama Kin), I was out with my brother (who was 23 at the time) and a bunch of other people and I couldn't get in anywhere. So a lot of it depends on the individual place and whether it's a show or you're just trying to get in and get drunk. em - -- £§£§£§£§£§ s t r a n g e p e r s o n @ h o t m a i l . c o m §£§£§£§£§£ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~e m t h e o d d~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Aug 1998 09:59:54 -0400 From: Geenius at Wrok Subject: Re: Cover tune wish list On 21 Aug 1998, OurHamster wrote: > REM: ...End of the World... The print will be really tiny if it's anything smaller than the size it is on the page. Yes, yes, yes, yes, YES I am. The Beatles are the greatest band to EVER come out of England (Fruvous, of course, coming from my home area, so I feel no guilt whatsoever) Why do I get the feeling I just sparked a whole new debate?... Anyway, I was talking to Murray after the Kingston All-Folks Festival performance back in July. During the show they did a quick cover of "Fixing a Hole", and Murray told me later that he was impressed that I knew the lyrics (I naturally started singing along). He then told me that they used to do a lot of Beatles covers back during their bar days in Toronto (back when I was under 19. And Ontario bars are just as ridiculous about ID. But my aunt so graciously went to all of them, then came home and told me all about the shows... grrr....) :) Veronica - -- ***************************************************************************** And in the end | Veronica Gruneberg The love you take | Dept. of Biology Is equal to the love | Queen's University You make... | Kingston, Ontario ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Aug 1998 09:51:28 -0400 From: Geenius at Wrok Subject: Re: New pin prototype On Thu, 20 Aug 1998, Hartfield Adam (Lud) wrote: > Hi y'all, I've posted one prototype of a new pin design to my website at > http://www.javanet.com/~adamh/mfonline.htm. There's a link on the page > which you can use to send me comments - please do! My suggestions: Make it less busy, and make it smaller. Two-inch buttons, sad to say, give off that unavoidably goofy PTA function vibe. One inch is about as wide as you can get and still have hipness potential. (If you want to get REALLY hip, drop to three-fourths of an inch.) Of course, smaller buttons necessitate simpler, punchier designs. I recommend something colorful and/or high-contrast, so that it can still be seen despite its smaller size. - -- "I wish EVERY day could be a shearing festival!" -- The 10 Commandments =+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+ Keith Ammann is geenius@albany.net "I notice you have a cloud of doom. Speaking as one with SOME knowledge of graphic design, I'd recommend against adding anything more. It's too "busy" (i.e., cluttered with design elements) to begin with. You have to decide what your goal is here - -- communicating your identity as an online fan to other online fans, or advertising to newbies all the various outlets for online expression of fandom. If the latter, consider that a flier might be more effective. (Who's gonna stand there staring at your shirt to read all the small print on your button? If someone's standing there staring at your shirt, how do you know they're really reading the button?) - -- "I wish EVERY day could be a shearing festival!" -- The 10 Commandments =+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+ Keith Ammann is geenius@albany.net "I notice you have a cloud of doom. I am still disappointed that they took that one off the air. And it ws a Jim Henson production, with (if my chilhood memories of Kermit- my favourite- hold true) some cross over of characters. I say we start a "Bring Back Fraggle Rock campaign." Lisa, I know what you mean about Fruvous-families. My enitre extended family are Fruvous fans. I can remember after my aunts and uncles went to the "Petting Zoo TV Tour" at the Danforth Music Hall in 1992 (WITHOUT ME!! I'm still bitter...) we sat around the dinner table on Christmas day singing GE&H. This did not impress my grandmother. We even converted my cousins in Ireland! :) Veroncia -- ***************************************************************************** And in the end | Veronica Gruneberg The love you take | Dept. of Biology Is equal to the love | Queen's University You make... | Kingston, Ontario ------------------------------ Date: 21 Aug 1998 14:54:05 GMT From: affannat@mail2.sas.upenn.edu (Kelly D Affannato) Subject: Re: Save the Meatball fund Hello again; Meatball died at about 8:30am this morning. I had set my alarm for every 2-3 hours during the night so that i could keep her breathing, feed her, give her water, etc. She made it through the night, and I gave her her morning meds at about 8am...I put her back in her cage so I could clean up after her morning dosing, and when I returned five muniutes later, she seemed to have passed. I took her to the vet anyway, just to confirm, and subsequqently buried her neaear the pond in Penn's Botanical Garden. I hope she is in a better place. Thank you once again for your warm wishes, hopes, and love in this rought ime. Maybe I am being overly dramatic, but I will miss the little fuzzball. She was a good pet, and a great guinea pig.
