Being all for helping other folks out, I think this may be more of a job (at least the BOOKING) than any one person can handle. Why? Because it seems to be parents' weekend or something which has already sold out rooms in NoHo - I'm 13th on a waiting list at Hotel NoHo, and have heard that the Inn at NoHo is full-up, too. Thus, lodging may involve going to Amherst or south to Springfield. It might be easier if folks sort of pair themselves up geographically (ie: "I'm from XX, and would like to share ride/hotel with 3 others.."), then work on finding lodging for their group. That way you'd be more likely to have a car in the group, which is useful if you're stuck driving to and from NoHo daily. If I can get it together, I'll try to post a list of regional accommodations, along with phone numbers, which would help everyone find a place. I had a flyer around somewhere... Last, but not least, I'm trying to talk to the Iron Horse to see if there's any way we can rent out the venue for a Halloween party on Saturday. If that fails, would anyone else have a suggestion of a place we could all gather to chat? I'm thinking if there are about 100-150 people, we need more of a "dedicated space" than a local restaurant! - -Zard "Veni, Vidi, Velcro" - I came, I saw, I stuck around. ------------------------------ Date: 21 Aug 1998 04:15:25 GMT From: affannat@mail1.sas.upenn.edu (Kelly D Affannato) Subject: Save the Meatball fund Hi everyone; Now I know this sounds just horrible, but in a sense, I am begging for money. A number of people have contacted me, wondering what they could contribute to the "Save the Meatball Fund". I tried to just point people to other people, figuring that no one would actually send money, and that would be ok, because good wishes are just great. Now I may need it. Meatball has not gotten much better, but tonight she seems to be sneezing junk up, which is a good thing. As usual, I will take her for her breathing treatment tomorrow. At today's treatment, however, my vet said that there may, if my budget permits, need to be done x-rays, blood work, and other tests and therapies that could run as high as $75 apiece. I don't have it, simply put. I hate the idea of this little creature not getting to live maybe, just because she happened to be in the care of a poor college student. And I also know, were this a human, perhaps my own child, somehow I would find a way to get the money. Anyone who has ever has a truly ill pet will understand this pain. My point is this: any of you who still want to/can/are willing to contribute to this, please let me know so I can tell my vet to press on, having an idea of the budget I can scrape together. Anything you want to contribute, even a warm wish, can be sent to Kelly Affannato, 2500 S. 7th St., 2nd Floor., Philadelphia, PA 19148. Funny, when I was younger I used to scorn panhandlers. I suppose that death be not proud, and its prevention even less so. Thank you all, however, no matter what. Now if you would excuse me, I have to go and wipe her nose. Peace be with you; Kelly ------------------------------ Date: 21 Aug 1998 04:32:31 GMT From: ourhamster@aol.com (OurHamster) Subject: Re: Kermit >Maybe it's just me, but I suspect most parents of wee-uns would immediately >associate the voice with Kermit the Frog of Sesame Street/Muppets. Right. Or, if you're *JIAN*, then you'd associate it with Fraggle Rock! Okee, here's my bit of input: I know many of you have posted to this ng saying "I need accomodations/rides". To be honest, I haven't kept track of who needs what and who has posted, and I doubt that very many people have. Sooo, if you guys want to send *me* an e-mail (at the NEW address, please take note, it's in my .sig - if you hit the e-mail reply button to this message, it'll get you to the right place) with the header: "Halloween at IH" and the following information: - -your name - -where you live (as precisely as possible - nearest big city, freeways etc.) - -whether you can give a ride or need one -if you can give a ride, to how many people? -if you need one, where are the nearest points you can meet people? (geographically, especially if you live in a small town) - -your contact information (e-mail and, if possible, phone #) - -any other info you find relevant Let's give you all until.... let's see.... September 7th, Labor Day. That gives you more than enough time to decide whether you want to be going. At that time, I'll compile the info and e-mail you all back with your options as to groups. I'll probably give you guys info on way more people in your geographic area than you'll end up actually travelling with, but that makes it easier for you to look for accomodations, etc. (meaning, you'll take it from there, basically). Sound good? >Last, but not least, I'm trying to talk to the Iron Horse to see if there's any >way we can rent out the venue for a Halloween party on Saturday. I'm not at all familiar with that area, but one thing I'd like to add is that it'll probably have to be somewhere *inside*, because it can get quite chilly in New England at the end of October. We don't want to have half of us be sniffly, do we? :) NOTE THE NEW E-MAIL ADDRESS!
