Okay, here's my funny "wow, folks know 'em" story for the week... On Monday (same day I flew back from Owen Sound) I went to have a massage (sorry, cee - I felt I was cheating, but I needed it desperately!), and was chatting with the massage therapist. We got talking about why I was so tight, and I said a lot of it probably had to do with all the driving/flying etc. from the weekend. She asked where I was, and then why I was in Canada. (remember, I'm from the DC area, NOT nearby...) I started to tell her about this folk festival, and well,.. um.. there's this band I follow around, a Canadian folk band, well... a glam folk band.. In the pause, she said "Moxy Fruvous?" and I about fell off the table! Turns out she had been to King of Prussia a couple of weeks before, since she was in training for her first stint as a Philly Pholk Phest volunteer! She really liked MF, and asked which disc she should start with, etc...(I'm of course going to lend her a selection, so she can choose wisely.) Yay!! What is it about massage therapists and Fruvous?? - -Zard "Veni, Vidi, Velcro" - I came, I saw, I stuck around. ------------------------------ Date: 20 Aug 1998 04:33:06 GMT From: zardsnod@aol.com (ZardSnod) Subject: Re:What I learned in T.O. I b'lieve so, but think that one can order through their website "www.arrogant-worms.com". There's tons of other info. there, although I must say that FDC is still highly superior... ;-) The album I got while up there was Live Bait, and would most certainly second Veronica's recommendation. - -Zard "Veni, Vidi, Velcro" - I came, I saw, I stuck around. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 20 Aug 1998 04:53:56 GMT From: ceelove@ibm.net (Colleen Campbell) Subject: Re: the drinking song On 19 Aug 1998 19:17:00 -0400, mikep@-spamblock-izzy.net (Michael Pelletier) wrote: >You might be thinking of the "Goodnight Irene" section of it, or >something along those lines. You'll also want to know your sister's: social security code, PIN, credit card expiration date, mother's maiden name (easy), birthmarks, locker combination, senior year GPA, dog's middle name, amongst the other obvious stuff. Oh yeah, and bring your sister along, just in case the bouncer asks anything you're not sure of. As long as you commit these few simple things to memory, you should have no problem...as long as he doesn't look at the expiration date or anything silly like that... - --Novac "The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese." ------------------------------ Date: 20 Aug 1998 11:13:28 GMT From: fruwench@aol.com (FruWench) Subject: Re: the drinking song two cents I thought I remembered hearing that it was written on a train when they were in Ireland. Up at the War in Pittsburgh this year, I was forbidden by my campmate to babble Fruvous. After all, I babble at her consistently the rest of the year and we WERE in the Middle Ages. It was hard, but I tried. And would have been reasonable successful. Except for meeting 4 or 5 people who were ALSO Fruvous Fans, 1 or 2 from my area even. And I managed to recruit a few more. It felt a bit weird discussing Moxy Fruvous while in tight bodice and full skirts, with a guy from San Francisco wearing linen and a tunic, in the middle of a Court dance. Then I come home and find a San Francisco date on FDC, but its a Tues so I can't go visit and addict him. Ah well. Because that was what we were in Pittsburgh to see...my mother and I are real life friends of Viscount Gregorhawk, and we asked him about is, and my mother actually e-mailed the SCA and asked if we could come, despite not being members, and they said it was fine. Unfortuantely, when we got there, 8 hours away, they would not let us in because we were not memebers!!!!!! We had a good time anyway, but Grrrrrrrr.......... Check out the Real Audio show from 1993 to hear the band say it themselves *grin*. If you haven't listened to that show, it's a great show. Lotsa screaming fans and many old school Fruvous tunes like Poor Napoleon, That's Any Good, and others. You can find a link to it on the FDC Multimedia page or go straight to: http://www.cgocable.net/~rockit/blastpst/moxyfruv/ The show is from January 1993... - Chad ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 20 Aug 1998 13:41:00 GMT From: BBWMinors@aol.com Subject: Thanks and questions Hi there ... Once again the newbie is sneaking in to post a few items, the first and foremost of which is THANKS to CeeCee and her FAQ file. It answers so many of my burning questions (though, regrettably, not how many ears of corn in a niblet or eggs in a pound). I do have one question and one addition/comment, though ... Q) Who does (or if it's more than one of them, who do) the voices such as: Spiderman, the Dr. Ruth-ian voice in MBLABOA, "Kermit" in KOS? And also, since "The B Album" doesn't list lead singers, who sings "I Love My Boss"? (Jian?) I'd also like to throw two more bands into the mix re: what MF fans might enjoy. I was a little surprised not to see The Bobs in there. They're a four- person a cappella group based in San Francisco that are, to say the least, a bit out there. They also do "Particle Man" (in fact, with all due respect to other TMBG fans, their version might be even better than the original -- and this comes from someone married to a guy whose baseball rotisserie team is named after TMBG -- They Mets Be Giants). The other band I would add is NRBQ, the best live act I've ever seen (but only because I've yet to see MF). "Get in the Car" is incredibly Q-esque. It looked like I might actually get to my first show but hopes have been dashed -- I am flying from Las Vegas to Phoenix Monday, Sept. 28 and was ready to detour through San Francisco that night, then learned that indeed the Slim's show is Tuesday, not Monday. Have to be out on a 100-degree baseball field at 8 a.m. the next morning so I guess it ain't happening. Oh well. Someday. OK. I'll shut up now. Looking forward to receiving "wood" and a pair of T- shirts in the mail in the next month or so.
