So much for 'carving' my work email onto the back of a calling card. Anyways, just wanted to say 'hi' and thanks! I haven't read much horror or mystery, but I must say you have good taste in SF/Fantasy authors. Melanie Rawn, Doug Adams, Asimov, and Anthony are 4 of my favorites. However, in the case of Melanie Rawn, I like the Exiles series better than the Dragon Star series. I'd also add Roger Zelazny (especially the Amber series), Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman (Dragonlance books, Death Gate series), Anne McCaffrey (the Pern novels are excellent!), Anne Rice (okay technically more horror than SF/Fantasy but I've recently started reading this series), and Neal Stephenson (great cyberpunk). Another frequently recommended author is Terry Prachett, but I haven't been impressed enough with the 1.5 books I've read to add him to my favorite authors just yet. aeves@alpha.confederationc.on.ca wrote: : : Personal recommendations: : : 1)Fantasy/SF: anything by Melanie : Rawn (especially the Dragon Prince : and Dragon Star series), Issac Asimov, : Piers Anthony, Douglas Adams or : Robert Lynn Aspirin : : 2)Horror: Stephen King (though I'll : admit I freaked Chrissy out a bit : reading The Shining at the lodge we : stayed at Sat. night) : : 3)Mystery: Agatha Christie!! Jordan's "Wheel of Time" series is wonderfully complex, satisfyingly long, and still ongoing after 7 volumes. Brooks first book is a rehash of Tolkien, but his other books show his own personal flair and are quite good. An outstanding classic, and one of my fav books is Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World." Also worthy of note IMO are Dan Simmons' "Hyperion" and "Fall of Hyperion." They're strange but compelling. > >2)Horror: Stephen King (though I'll >admit I freaked Chrissy out a bit >reading The Shining at the lodge we >stayed at Sat. night) I've always liked Dean Koontz, especially his "Strangers." I haven't been luck enough to see them perform this in concert (darn it!), but, depending on my mood, I get teary when listening to it on Live Noise.
