I think that this would be a good idea. Think of the poor Fruheads that live near the Ironhorse...Think of all the Cleaning Before and after everyone leaves. This doen't have to be done when renting a house. I would definitely be in favor of this suggestion Daniel P.S. I really don't live near the Ironhorse, but just feel bad for any fruheads that do, and decide to open their houses. I've talked to a Bostonian Fruhead, a Buffalo Fruhead who is *planning* on driving, and Drea who also wants to come, (Would Thunder Bay to Northampton make hers the longest distance for the show?) but everything's tentative. If anyone out there is making a list of who's planning to come, who needs floor space, who has floor space, who's looking into renting floor space, who needs a drive from where and who can drive from where then put me down for "needs a lift from Guelph, Toronto, or Buffalo and needs floorspace on the night of the 30th". Most prejudice. For instance, if I was beaten up and mugged twice in New York city by hispanics wearing brown leather jackets, I may well be frightened by any hispanic wearing a brown leather jacket. This is based on experience, but it is prejudice nonetheless. >Admittedly not the widest sample, but what can I say, I'm a bit cynical >about it. Representative samples of the nation use *at bare minimum* 1000 samples, I believe. Your "likely" conclusion is based on what, about ten people, all of whom have the same profession. Now, I do not intend to claim anything about the actual state of the countries of US or Canada, or of anywhere else. I simply would like to point out that by assuming that people who are not stopped at the border are white is just as prejudice as any border patrolman who assumes that a person may have illegal goods just because s/he is black. Then again, maybe the samples you're drawing from are loaded. I'm sure there are certain things that border patrol looks out for...that *don't* include color/race. They're always entering in license plates, and certain types of cars are "preferred" by those who attempt to smuggle drugs across the border. If they happened to catch someone smuggling drugs across in a certain type of Buick, and someone crosses with the exact same type of Buick, you can rest assured that the patrolman will be thinking of the other person when they see your car. Failing that, can someone recommend a cheap place to stay in Northampton? i may too be in search of somewhere to crash though i shoud have an easy time coming up with it. see _that_ would have been an advantage to going to smith... but the real point of this post was that the days inn, which is easy walking distance from both the bus stop, if that is your preferred mode of transportation, and the center of town, has relatively nice rooms which can house several people (if sharing sleeping space is not a huge issue) for around $59 a night. that may be the cheapest hotel accomodation around but i'm not really sure. there's also hotel northampton but i'm pretty sure it's at least a bit more expensive. loren. - -who still doesn't know if she'll be leaving a short hour or so from noho and might have floor space to offer in exchange for car space to and from on at least one of the nights. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 12 Aug 1998 14:16:02 GMT From: "Ann Marie & Cameron" Subject: Re: Canadian Customs >--Novac didn't care much for Pizza Pizza...prefers Tim Hortons That's like comparing Apples and goats... In leiu of Fruspace, tips on reasonable places to > stay in those cities would be appreciated too (since I've never been > to any of them before). I'll try this again, since I guess my other post didn't get picked up. The Second Story is NOT in Indianapolis. It is in Bloomington (45 minutes South of Indy). It's a small bar in the middle of town. Good atmosphere and good flaming cheese at the Trojan Horse. Unless they mean the Patio (which is in Indy and has their booking done by the same company), the show is in Bloomington. I may be planning on taking Friday off work and hanging out on campus at IU to provide a little free advertising for the show Friday night to maybe get the student awareness of it up. I don't know for sure if I'll do it, but I am thinking about it. If so, anyone else wanna help? People who actually know the IU campus would be very very welcomed =) That said, I have crash space in Indy to offer whenever anyone wants it. Just email me privately. I'll be at the Columbus show the night before and the Cincinatti show after. Maybe there'll be a Phoenix Hill date tossed in after Cincinatti too (*hint hint*). As for a more complete plan, well that'll come along when the tour dates fill out, but tentatively (filled with speculation too): Tues Oct 6 Champaign, IL venue tba - with guests The Nields (Venue will most likely be 18+ since bars are 18+ - if you haven't seen the Nields yet this is a really great opportunity) If a St. Louis date gets added before this, I'll take Monday and Tuesay off work and do St. Louis and Champaign and then head back to Indy after the Champaign show. If St. Louis date is not added, I'll just go to Champaign after work on Tuesday and head home after the show. Thurs Oct 8 Minneapolis, MN The Quest - with guests The Nields Fri Oct 9 Madison, WI Club Tavern - opening for The Nields If Chicago dates are added for the weekend, I may take some time off and hit these. Dunno yet. Thurs Oct 15 Columbus, OH Ludlow's (last time, all ages show) Fri Oct 16 BLOOMINGTON, IN Second Story (21+) Sat Oct 17 Cincinnati, OH venue tba Each of these, I'll work and then head out after work to the show and drive back to Indy afterwards most likely, unless there is something cool going on after the show in Cincinnati. If a Louisville show gets added after, I might go to Louisville after the Cincinnati show. Dunno. Fri Oct 30 & Sat Oct 31 Northampton, MA Iron Horse - 2 Night Halloween Extravaganza! Definitely taking off work and hitting the Horse! With all that now said, I am always willing to take people along, especially if it isn't too far out of my way =) If you want to tag along with me on any of these, just ask. If you need a place to stay in Indy, just ask. If you want a silly story made up, just ask. My plans are usually not final until the day I leave *grin*. Hope that helps.
