I have this tape, and I will gladly make you a copy: email me for details. But *please*--and this is directed at all the fairly new people on the newsgroup--don't offer cash for bootlegs: Fruvous's or anyone else's. This is the ARTISTS' work. It is illegal, immoral, and unethical for us to make a profit off of it, and especially demeaning to a band like Fruvous, who have been so generous in allowing their fans to tape and disseminate their shows. If a trader asks money for a tape, please take it as a red flag that s/he doesn't really respect the artists whose work he's profitting; and don't offer cash to them yourself. (If anything, we should send money to Fruvous whenever we get tapes of theirs. . .) ceecee ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 06 Aug 1998 15:16:28 -0500 From: Moxy Fruvous Subject: Itinerary Update! Like most people, I think "me too" posts are silly and redundant. Seems even more so to post a followup of that nature to my own roomie's post. But I'll second this: I completely agree, and she's said it better than I can. We are fans of a band, and when we purchase their CDs and tickets to their shows, we are not purchasing information or "in"s on their personal lives. BECAUSE they are public figures, they have all the more need for private lives. The day that Jian gets on stage and says, "I had sex with Brad Pitt last night" is the day that he's made a public statement about his sex life. At that point, he's inviting you to satisfy your curiosity about his habits and/or proclivities. (He's also inviting you to be jealous, if that's your thing. *smile*) Before then, though, the fact that he *hasn't* gotten on stage and announced anything of that nature deserves some respect, and one can assume that he's declined to do so for a reason. ceecee on a soapbox ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 04 Aug 1998 12:06:23 GMT From: dacilen@bu.edu (Vika Zafrin) Subject: Re: Jian's Cool! I know what rumorville (even one that consists of people that *like* me) feels like. Just recently, I had the opportunity to feel that I was talked about (albeit in favorable terms) sort of "behind my back," that stuff about my personal life had been told to people I hardly know. It was all that much harder to deal with (I must admit, I was dealing with it for all of about 10 minutes, and then went on with my life) because I had expressly attached a "don't tell our other friends, I'll tell them myself" tag to the particular piece of information. So, right there, for those 10 minutes, I felt... well, naked, like my life was out there in the open (even though it wasn't). That was scary. Jian, Mur, Mike and Dave deal with this every single day. I can't imagine that, fully. Neither can anyone who isn't in their shoes. So how about we *don't* speculate on their personal lives, and when asking them questions, remember that if they're comfortable with us, they'll tell us stuff, but if not, we really shouldn't push? Now, granted, this is a newsgroup for *fans* of Moxy Fruvous, not for the Frulads themselves. But they (at least in part) do read it, so why not be a bit sensitive? My opinion (humble? hah!). Flames to me, please, not the newsgroup. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Vika [VEE-kah] Zafrin Patron Saint of Caffeine dacilen at bu dot edu aka Coffee Fru "You and your hula dance of culinary delight..." -ceecee ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 06 Aug 1998 21:45:21 +0000 From: Richard B Subject: Re: August in Toronto Trace wrote: > On Thu, 06 Aug 1998 14:42:12 GMT, ceelove@ibm.net (Colleen Campbell) > wrote: > > >Well, bragging rights, yeah. If I'm right, > Fruheads have already gone transatlantic. Woohoo! Well last night we went to see Great Big Sea (thanks for the tip-off Zard) in London and I think myself and the unsuspecting fool I dragged along were the only English people in there. Canadian accents were rife and everyone else was singing along and knew all the words. How can this be? *Nobody* in England has heard of Great Big Sea. Either all the ex-pat Canadians in London crawled out of the woodwork for the evening, or GBS brought the entire population of Newfoundland with then on tour. Do GBS have a *very* loyal following? Superb gig by the way. Pip pip Richard ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 03 Aug 1998 19:03:47 GMT From: Ofer Inbar Subject: Re: Off-topic: do a kid a kindness, will ya? Last I checked, there were still several hundred thousand postcards coming in for Craig Shergold *every day*. The UK postal service had hired several full time staff just to deal with Craig Shergold cards (which are, of course, not being delivered - perhaps the source of this receptionists heartbreak). The Guiness Book of World Records has removed the category of most postcards received, to discourage anyone from doing this again. Craig Shergold himself fervently wishes he hadn't made that wish, and that people would stop sending him postcards. The moral of the story: Always check the source of your information before forwarding it to the net. Keep it in mind. (Vika did the right thing by telling us where she got it from, but someone at BU might want to track the source of that memo and talk to the people who sent it...) -- Cos (Ofer Inbar) -- cos@leftbank.com cos@cs.brandeis.edu -- The Left Bank Operation -- lbo@leftbank.com http://www.leftbank.com/ "We all misuse the net for personal gain, one way or another." -- Larry Wall ------------------------------ End of alt.music.moxy-fruvous digest V1 #237 ********************************************
