Haven't seen, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. :) Then again, the guy may have been improvising a kilt. What a fun, talented band!! *grin grin grin* Told y'all. :) (The story behind this is that Scott, the lead singer of BARK like a dog, was a client of mine back in May; and, as I frequently do, I raved about Fruvous to him. I found out he was in a band, went to see them, loved it, babbled to y'all about it, and am thrilled that the Fruheads & BLAD seem to be taking right to each other!) >I hope we have an opportunity to play with them again soon and see all of >you again. Like most people, I think "me too" posts are silly and redundant. Seems even more so to post a followup of that nature to my own roomie's post. But I'll second this: I completely agree, and she's said it better than I can. We are fans of a band, and when we purchase their CDs and tickets to their shows, we are not purchasing information or "in"s on their personal lives. BECAUSE they are public figures, they have all the more need for private lives. The day that Jian gets on stage and says, "I had sex with Brad Pitt last night" is the day that he's made a public statement about his sex life. At that point, he's inviting you to satisfy your curiosity about his habits and/or proclivities. (He's also inviting you to be jealous, if that's your thing. *smile*) Before then, though, the fact that he *hasn't* gotten on stage and announced anything of that nature deserves some respect, and one can assume that he's declined to do so for a reason. ceecee on a soapbox ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 3 Aug 1998 20:00:28 -0400 From: "Robert M Fenster" Subject: Nice job -- a few more thoughts Kumar did an excellent job capturing the essence of the show and you bastards already got to my two IDs (Laika and I Shall Be Released), so I don't have much to say... except: To clue in those who weren't there, the shirtless hippy had this walking stick with some kind of rope tied to the end. He was doing all these hippy-dippy moves with it, holding on the string and letting it fall, spinning around, and so forth. Should also mention he was wearing a skirt-wrap kind of thingy (hence the Scotsman comment) and I'm sorry to say, I unfortunately noticed at one point that he wasn't wearing any underwear. (You don't want to know.) After just a song or two, a cop came over and confiscated his cane. Too bad the boys didn't see or they might have said something. Not only is "I Shall Be Released" a wonderful song in and of itself, it was the big finale in the Monty Python concert film "The Secret Policeman's Other Ball" which I believe was to benefit Amnesty International. Sting sang it with a slew of other superstars. That will always be my favorite version (think about the obvious Amnesty-related theme), but last night's version was pretty wonderful. I've seen the band six times now and this was the sharpest they've been with the quips -- and the setting allowed them to actually go out into the audience, which was neat. Finally, I thought Mike's Philadelphia song was terrific and more than made up for no Grandpa Fruvous improv. I hope he records it. If you're flying across the border you will need a birth certificate or your passport (although I have done it without, but I think they were being nice since I was back for a funeral....*sigh*). I guess I should look into the special driver license since I am renting a vehicle while there.... I've been to 4 or 5 Fruvous shows, been lovin' their music for a couple of years. I've always found their stuff to be "just the thing" for fun, bouncy juggling routines, but thought I was the only one. Then... we went to the King of Prussia show 2 evenings ago (what a great outdoor venue!) and over a dozen good jugglers showed up! We had a great time during the warmup act and the set break showing off club passing, and some lunatic (I mean that with the highest reverence possible) was there doing one of the most impressive 5-ball routines I've ever seen, plus had the most jaw-dropping club passing tricks I've seen to date. Whoever you are, you rock. Come down to West Chester, PA some thursday evening and teach us some of your stuff. Hope to see more jugglers at the next East Coast US show I can make it to! Next time, more of you bring your own clubs!
