I still haven't recovered. Definitely the biggest Fruvous crowd I've ever seen. Everyone I talked to said it was the biggest crowd ever at the Sunday night concert series. I got there late after working all day, so I missed most of the opening act & didn't catch her name. She sounded OK - I liked most of what I heard. The setlist has already been posted, but a few standouts for me were: - - hearing the Greatest Man in America for the first time in ages - - hearing Laika for the first time ever - great new arrangement - - the most amazing cover of I Shall Be Released I've ever heard. The former best cover was 10 years ago and was an ensemble piece with Tracy Chapman, Sting, Peter Gabriel, Bruce Springsteen & Joan Baez. Fruvous beat it hands down - that's how good it was. We didn't hang around after the show because I had to be at work at 7:00 this morning & because I got there late I didn't get to talk to a lot of other fruheads. Sorry about that - I wasn't being unfriendly, just exhausted. Thanks to all who helped make this show possible. Cheers, Bonnie ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 04 Aug 1998 11:57:28 GMT From: BBWMinors@aol.com Subject: Question about one song and other notes I just joined the Fruvous mailing list as a "newbie Fruhead" or whatever you would call me (am I allowed to take the title "Fruhead" when I'm a novice, please please please??? Is there an initiation? Is it enough that I have the strains of "Video Bargainville" swirling in my mind in my sleep and make my co-workers listen to my warble "Gulf War Song" at work -- if, indeed, you can warble "Gulf War Song"? That I just sent away for "wood" and 2 T-shirts?) I feel as if I have been given a gift. Can't remember feeling this way about a new group (kind of like being in teenage love). OK, don't mean "new group," but rather new to me. Anywa, here's the question ... a few people have mentioned a song from the recent Maryland shows (which I didn't get to damn damn damn and am almost ready to book a flight to Calgary to make up for this) called -- I think -- "I Will Hold On" and they're raving about it. Is this from an album? Upcoming album? Cover song? Just wondering. I hope I'm not sounding positively boring to the regular posters. I'm enjoying reading all the posts so much and feel like whoever you are, we already have something special in common -- though I'm getting a late start to Fruism, I can't wait to start following the fold (I do get to travel a lot for my job -- including Edmonton and Calgary for a week next summer - and will be making special note of the concert tours so wherever they make take them to minor- league baseball cities during "the season" may well find me). Take care ... Lisa ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 04 Aug 1998 12:52:46 GMT From: "Demetriou, Melanie" Subject: RE: SoNo show: The front row? Jian always talks to someone in the crowd during GE&H, and at SoNo, that person happened to be in the front, I think. I don't remember Mike doing anything like what the poster describes, but if he did, I'm *sure* he was kidding around, going for effect or something. I can't imagine that one or more of our boys would ever just get mad and start swearing at someone. I mean, c'mon! I was at the sono show, and I don't remember any instance of either Jian or Mike being rude. Just there normal show stuff. I do remember that there was one part that Jian was talkinf to someone during a song that I didn't expect. The same feel as GE&H but a different song. By the way I thought the show was awesome and being from Norwalk it was nice as Jian said after the show to have the mountain come to mohamed instead of all the southern Connecticut Fruheads always trekin to NYC! Thanks to all who were there, sometimes I think that is our energy and enthusiasm that spurs them to give great shows... great crowds=great shows Angel ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 04 Aug 1998 14:29:41 GMT From: Bonnie Conrad Subject: RE: Tape grovel If anyone taped the 8/2 King of Prussia show, I would love to have a copy. Taking your advice Doug, I will look into taking an early flight back from Toronto and just going to work from the airport. - -- chad@ radix.net ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 03 Aug 1998 20:41:20 -0400 From: Chad Schrock Subject: Re: Q: Toronto wahrend@my-dejanews.com wrote: > > Hello fellow frus: > > I remember someone posting that they were driving to the free > shows (7,8,9) from Chicago... if you could contact me via email > or whatnot I would greatly appreciate it. Anyone going up from DC/Baltimore? (I just called the airlines today to fly up Friday and back Sunday night. Great Googly-Moogly! were they expensive. Hopefully the E-savers might have good fares out of here.) Or, as a last ditch effort, how long of a drive is it and do I need an international drivers license? Demoralized, but not quite out.... chad (this is a *great* excuse to visit Canada for the first time, don't you think? :) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 04 Aug 1998 14:03:24 -0400 From: Frank Mattheus Subject: Re: "chompin' off dave's head ..." > Can I take a moment to speak up for Jian?
