In fact, >they were so good at this, the real thing had to come to life at Serpico's >on Salina hours later. Such potent singing! Too funny! What you saw was my favorite medley of theirs, the Dancing Queen medley. The first time I heard it was at Falcon Ridge '96, when they did it as an encore. The whole damn hillside was dancing! It was impressive. Several thousand folkies got off their butts. As an aside: The Real Group, one of the most amazing a cappella groups I know of (though I don't actually have any of their records), does a _wonderful_ version of Dancing Queen. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Vika [VEE-kah] Zafrin Patron Saint of Caffeine dacilen at bu dot edu aka Coffee Fru "You and your hula dance of culinary delight..." -ceecee ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 27 Jul 1998 20:09:38 GMT From: "Hartfield Adam (Lud)" Subject: RE: Oswego Directions > Can I just say that the day either one of my parents comes to > a Moxy show is The Day I Lay Down and Die? > > Melanie > Quit creeping me out! Yeah, but did you see the look on Murray's face right after Jian put the hat on like that? It obviously didn't look like it felt nice for Mur, and he restrained a bit of a scowl :) I think the laughter from us helped lighten the moment for him... >A final thought before I close my first post. They weren't kidding when they named it the "River Stage." The rocking of the stage wasn't really all that bad, and unless you were trying to see it, the rocking wasn't very noticable unless you had the stage crew romping from one end to the other, or when a boat came by and kicked up some waves. The boat was the very annoying part, though...it was timed about as bad as it could have been (the Fly incident). At least the first time, the Lads hadn't started yet, and waited for the boat to clear. - --Novac "Write a wise saying and your name will live forever." -- Anonymous ------------------------------ Date: 27 Jul 1998 20:42:19 GMT From: faysboy@aol.com (Faysboy) Subject: Video and(or) Cassette Recordings.... does anyone have a recording of the 2 previous Oswego and Syracuse shows, if so i really need to get my hands on them. thanks faysboy ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 27 Jul 1998 20:35:39 GMT From: harpo2@my-dejanews.com Subject: Looking for NYC show I am looking for the Moxy show from Bowery Ballroom in June. Still >though, the show was incredible! Well, in Styleens, if you're close to the stage (the part of the crowd that gets more lighting than the Lads :), then you're in front of the main speakers. That results in getting most of your sound from the monitors and what-not. Not exactly the best placement for the best sound, but it's close to the lads, so I "suffer" :P At one of the shows last year, I was behind the speakers, and for two shows I was in front of them. Makes for a fairly big difference in sound. - --Novac "Write a wise saying and your name will live forever." -- Anonymous ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 27 Jul 1998 21:06:48 GMT From: wahrend@my-dejanews.com Subject: Re: Trying to figure out the "horseshoes" metaphor... I always thought of it in this light: Basically people do things which put them in a situation for hurt (i.e. they set themselves up for the fall). You know the danger, you know the doom, and still you place yourself at the mercy of someone else and expect not to get hurt (kind of depressing thought). But you've already lost and that the best away to avoid such self-distruction is to not give out the horseshoes in the first place.
