Laws that are found in every society around the world. Laws that be hold so that our species can survive. Laws against murder and incest. These are not based on morality. Issues of speech ,specifically, should never be open to moral interpretation, in a legislative way.. My points were on the issues of speech alone., which seemed to be the subject of the thread. thanks for the point. jude >> ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Jul 1998 14:33:21 GMT From: "Demetriou, Melanie" Subject: RE: greetings from Alberta! They cleaned up Steve Miller's song too, so it said "funky kicks going down in the city," instead of "funky sh*t..." (sorry I can't remember the song title. _Jet Airliner_?) As I can't say enough bad things about Stern and Springer, I won't say anything at all. I heard something on the radio that completely disgusted me a couple weeks ago. One of the best funk/dance tunes of all time, _Play That Funky Music_, has been hit by the PC police. The lyrics now say: "Play that funky music. Play that funky music right!" Apparently, "white boy" can no longer be said on the radio. So much for free speech. These must be the same people that took n*gger out of _Huck Finn_. Sheesh. Talk about Missing The Point. Funny, I was watching south park the other night (sat) and they were talking about censorship since the cartoons that the kids were watching were "toilet humor". And right in the middle of the show there is this message about parents getting doing this "save our kids" shit because they use the television as a babysitter and the sole educator. Pretty profound. Maybe they *are* a date > band! I love my "your new girlfriend" t-shirt! When I'd wear it to school I would get the neatest reactions (of course a lot of it was from people who plain out didn't understand; "What does that mean?" It means I'm your new girlfriend. "What? You are NOT!" I am too. Read the shirt. Shirts don't lie) But a lot of people were very receptive to the idea of my being their new girlfriend & it did make for a lot of fun comments. As Moz said, the shirt works! I wore it to my portfolio class not to long ago & by the end of the day I had a boyfriend. It didn't last very long but it was fun. Miriam Beetle Libicki "Me? I realized after I posted that I had misspoken. Kids, both the under 12 and teen age groups, are a huge market force. What I meant was that advertisers must bear in mind that kids spend their parents' money, so advertising must appeal to the target group enough to make them want it, without offending their parents enough to make them say no to the purchase. Cigarettes don't count. The cigarette companies play dirty pool. They're just out to get people addicted and they don't care about the rest of it. They know that the warning on their packages don't mean a hill of beans to a 13 year old who thinks it's cool to smoke. Bastards.
