I recently dubbed soem BNL boots for a freind, ans had some extra space on the end of the tape. Based on his comments about enjoying the "fun" BNL songs, and knowing he's a Beatles fan, I used: I Love My Boss Greatest Man in America Green Eggs & Ham Incredible Medicine Show. I really think a selection of a certain genre of Moxy music can be used to get someone's attention, and then encourage them to buy more and "convert" to Frudalism. Easy to find the CDs that I want and get them mailed to me. :) (After a customer service person calls me for some reason. >*grumble* Too similar names. :) something like www.buystuff.com would be a lot easier... chad ------------------------------ Date: 15 Jul 1998 02:50:18 GMT From: aditu525@aol.com (Aditu525) Subject: Re: Talents? Alright! Go artists (in any sense of the word). I, too, study art at SUNY Fredonia. I'm going in for graphic design, but have developed a sudden love for sculpture, so that all might change. I do love drawing, esp pastels and chalk and anything else that gets rather messy and fun ^_^. I also am a passionate reader and writer of fanasty stories (magic, dragons, gryphons...the works!!) and a great comic series called ElfQuest. Music is also big in my life, anything from REM and Fru to Broadway musicals (RENT is my latest obsession). Other than that, hanging out with dear friends and enjoying the great outdoors top off the list. Well, I am not musically inclined. Jian, I'm not. :) First and foremost, I'm a non-geek geek. Or a liberal arts person with geek tendancies. Something like that. Since I still live at home, I am somewhat limited in the things that I like to do, such as cook. My parents aren't that "experimental," shall we say. I am starting to spend a lot more time reading than I used to do, which is both a Good Thing(tm) and a Bad Thing(tm). (Bad because I should be getting in shape to play soccer in a rapidly dwindling amount of time.) I also write some. Oh, and I am one of the prime sources of new music and stuff for a bunch of friends of mine. (Listening to 'XPN as much as I do has that effect on people. ;) I don't think much of that counts as a hobby, per se, but I don't have a lot of time for many things and it's what I do. chad :) still lowercase, after all these posts. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Jul 1998 02:15:50 GMT From: beetleschka@my-dejanews.com Subject: Re: greetings from Alberta! I have no problem > with majority rule, but NOT when it infringes upon the rights of others. Well, I don't know about okay, but suppression of rights is _legal_ if you happen to be in the majority. In fact, if the majority of American citizens wanted to bring back slavery, they could do it (So it's a little bit more complicated than that to repeal an amendment to the constitution. But my point remains essentially intact.) Now, on one hand, this sucks, but on the other hand, how do you determine what the rights of the individual are if not by consensus of the majority? _I_ think I have the right to a Porsche. Unfortunately, not many people share this opinion, so I have to use public transportation. That's life. There were a few familiar faces in the crowd, but no one I could name. Strange. Anyway, this was a great little show! The place filled up nicely for Buckwheat Zydeco, but Fruvous got a great reception. I wish they'd forced everyone to stand like Buckwheat did, though. I think they made a lot of new friends at this show, though certainly not on the scale of the Philly show the day before (as Tobey put it, "we preached the gospel to many people" that day). Kristaffer and I made the venue staff change the spelling of the band's name on the little sign out front from "Moxie" to "Moxy," but they weren't mentioned on the main marquee or in the announcements over the loudspeaker. Tobey suggested getting the big Media Play sign (gloat) from our car to hang on the marquee, but it's too nice a sunscreen for me to risk it being stolen. The crowd was mostly older and a bit conservative, but hey, they were there to see Buckwheat so they couldn't be that bad, right? :D The crowd was buzzing after the show, although I did hear one person who didn't care for the closing number (LP#9). Most folks seemed amazed at how good they were, and the line at the merch table was a sign of many converts. Dave had some volume problems with his microphone early in the show, but his banjo was in fine shape and it MIGHT not be true that he's been cursed after wearing a Murray shirt. It's probably just a coincidence. Maybe. The only other real glitch was the flubbed line in "Michigan Militia," but the entire band seemed to be responsible for that one. It was a lovely night on the OC Boardwalk, and I hope they come back soon. NEXT time I'll be sure to get press passes so I'm not confined to the sixth row....my usual side of the stage, but a bit too far back for my tastes. Approximate setlist (we have Murray's here somewhere thanks to Cal, but my accursed child has done his disappearing act just when I need him so I'm working from my notes): MBLABOA BJ Boss (a capella) Spidey (ditto) Dave's little improv about the waves, which turned into Mike's little improv about smut (how DOES his mind work?) Fly Michigan Militia Johnny Saucep'n Message KOS/GE&H Love Potion #9 BTW, Buckwheat was great, too..."and let's have a hand for our opening act, ummm.... :::glance offstage:::: :::whisper whisper:::: ....ROXY!"
