I don't think that'll work with everyone. Many will laugh in your face if you try to teach them "your" (in their opinion) mode of behaviour. I've personally encountered that. I don't think there is a perfect answer to that one. And, responding to Christine's post, if it is indeed the record store that gets to decide what records to put the label on and how to handle their policy on selling such records, then we've been throwing ideas about idly: the record store, which provides us with the service of making music available around the block, certainly has every right to put those labels - which are, again, an expression of opinion, but that of a much smaller group than I thought previously - on them. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Vika [VEE-kah] Zafrin Patron Saint of Caffeine dacilen at bu dot edu aka Coffee Fru "You and your hula dance of culinary delight..." -ceecee ------------------------------ Date: 14 Jul 1998 19:16:20 GMT From: jenncyn@aol.com (JennCyn) Subject: Re: psycho killer > The other day I was listening to the radio (something I do less and less of > these days but that is a different issue) and I heard this appalling cover > of psycho killer by some cheeseball garage band, has anyone else heard this > mockery? (Don't even get me started on the cover of Policy of Truth I heard > about a week back). I haven't heard this one yet. However, the first time I ever heard "Psycho Killer" was when the Bobs, an a cappella group loosely based out of the Bay Area, covered it on "Sing The Songs Of...." It's a great arrangement, and also indicative of how offbeat the Bobs can get (although it doesn't get close to, say, their original song "Vapor Carioca," or many others I could mention). Obligatory Fruvous Endorsement: Murray once told me, after I said I'd just heard the Bobs the day before, that "the Bobs are awesome!" So take his word for it, if nothing else. :) - - jenn http://www.halcyon.com/griffee/moxy/ ------------------------------ Date: 14 Jul 1998 19:22:22 GMT From: fruwench@aol.com (FruWench) Subject: Re: Penn's Landing Show >I'm *really* looking forward to their show in Annapolis now. Some people on the ng know about this incident (e.g. Vika), so maybe that's why it was brought up. I _WAS_ randomly punched by someone recently. I was walking to my parking lot from work. A man walked towards me, and right as we passed one another, he punched me full force in the chest with his fist...for no reason. In the end, I did nothing about this attack. But it's nice to know that the laws exist such that if I had felt it necessary to retaliate without violence, I could've made use of the system. If no law existed prohibiting people from randomly punching others, then my only course of action would have been to fight back right then and there. Some people out there are just going to do whatever they feel like, regardless of the presence or absence of laws. It's unfortunate, but it's the way the world is. You can't teach everyone right from wrong. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Chris O'Malley http://www.fruvous.com 'Tattoo Fru' webmaster@fruvous.com "I like being a pretzel with you..." ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Jul 1998 19:22:54 GMT From: beetleschka@my-dejanews.com Subject: Re: Sucky Fruvous Adventure Stories??? Freak's sake why didn't you CALL ME? He said it was two in the morning I said DOESN'T MATTER! I'd'a BEEN THERE! He didn't record it even cause this was a suspiciously "free" cable channel & so I just had to grill him for every little detail. Miriam P.S. he didn't find my reaction at all strange though. I've taken him to two concerts & he's learning. This whole exchange culminated in my lending him my b album, so it does have a happy ending... > - -----== Posted via Deja News, The Leader in Internet Discussion ==----- http://www.dejanews.com/rg_mkgrp.xp Create Your Own Free Member Forum ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Jul 1998 20:52:48 GMT From: beetleschka@my-dejanews.com Subject: Re: Jim & his Ego (was Re: branching out in musical tastes...) Yes thanks everyone for all the information I went to the website & played the lyric mad-libs with my sisters we've got titanic & now Naomi (older sister) wants to get the one with "Stress" on it 'cause she heard it on the radio but one question, none of the albums seem to have the "put a cold beer on your wrist Rita" song which I heard once on the radio I'm sure it's by him?
