Finally heard them on Acoustic Cafe site (they and many others are there with the Fru-lads, see other thread) Now, my one original thought for this thread: Hasn't anyone else besides me heard of Hemingway Corner? Their album "Under the Big Sky" is very Fruvous in the Wood-like sense. They blend three voices and three acoustic guitars into a surprising variety of textures. Oh btw Cee, on your next used CD sojourn look for the Northern Pikes. A sadly defunct Canuck band. A classic video for the song "She ain't pretty ,She just looks that way." I believe that the new album is coming out relatively soon; I can check on that (he, he . . . it's fun to have inside sources!). On an interesting side note, the photography on the new album is by our beloved Lisa Pollack (who met Jason, Jim's manager after the Fruvous show at the Paradise in May of '97). My fear is, though, that this society (I'm talking about the U.S. here) is indeed conservative - so most of it probably does agree with the warning labels. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Vika [VEE-kah] Zafrin Patron Saint of Caffeine dacilen at bu dot edu aka Coffee Fru "You and your hula dance of culinary delight..." -ceecee ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Jul 1998 12:06:30 GMT From: dacilen@bu.edu (Vika Zafrin) Subject: Re: greetings from Alberta! Enough to you, but not to me. Censorship means it's not widely available to the public, not easily reachable. The records that carry those labels aren't locked away - they still sit there on the shelves, waiting for people to buy them. As for someone else saying that I may be bad and perverted, frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn. :) Seiously, though, not only do I not give a damn, I also have arguments to support my viewpoint. If Jack the Senator and I will ever get into discussion about whether I am a pervert, I will be open to change my mind - IF he brings up valid viewpoints. But I sincerely doubt that, in this case. It'd have to be a *very* convincing argument. As for people that are more influenced by the labels - I honestly don't understand that. Maybe it's the way they were raised: their parents might have told them that they should follow what their government says without thinking. In that case, the problem lies not in the government, but in educating people on this whole think-for-yourself thing. >and yes, i agree, if jack the >senator wants explicit lyrics labels, he has every right to lobby for them and >hope to get laws passed enforcing them. and i have the right to speak out, hope >and pray that he is defeated. You most certainly do. And not only will I not stop you - I'll even support you. But until they actually try to impose sanctions that physically prohibit a certain group of people from buying records with the labels on them, I don't think we'll be all that successful. This *is* a Puritanical society, after all. We can't change their morals. We are, however, free not to conform to them. >also, im happy to inform you that my fever broke, and i can (groan) go back to >work tommorow. Hah!
