Yeow, my reputation precedes me. . .two people correct him on this before I ever get around to it! Yes, I drove--and not directly, either. I wanted to bring my little sister and best friend, who were in Huntsville, AL and Dayton, and they couldn't afford to fly, so I drove from Ft. Lauderdale. And I still maintain it was worth it, Joe. :) cee, who has driven/flown to her fair share of shows since. . . ------------------------------ Date: 10 Jul 1998 23:47:59 GMT From: samoq@aol.com (Samoq) Subject: Re: The Coolest Place on Earth Today >Hey guys, > >http://webcrawler.city.net/features/whatsgoingon/ > >has a whole big article on Moxie (the drink) today, Friday, July 10th. In case anybody is interested, every summer at the Seashore Trolley Museum in Kennebunkport, Maine they have a "Moxie" festival, celebrating the delightful effervescence that is Moxie soda-pop. They sell soda, and advertising propaganda, etc... I'm not sure what else they do. (Guzzling contests? Belching contests immediately afterward?) If anyone would like more info, email me and I'll find out what I can. Personally, I think wrapping the evening up with a MF concert would be the perfect ending to a highly carbonated day. ******************************************************************** Sharon samoq@aol.com "Know thyself? Well, I just got back from Media Play. They were awesome. This was my second Moxy show. I was real close too, on the left side (if you're facing the stage) sitting right in front!!! It was great. I almost wasn't able to go. I was scheduled to work, but when I showed up, we were having computer problems and had been closed all day. Eventually the manager decided that we were just gonna stay closed...so we rushed right to media play and got an awesome spot. So it's not the labeling that's the problem; it's the >utilization thereof. IMHO. > >I am unfamiliar with the communications decency act you mention. What does >it entail? Who supports it? The cda first appeared in the middle of 1995, when senator james exon first attempted to get it legalized by adding it to the telecommunications bill that was being debated in congress. in essence, the cda makes it illegal for anyone to use a telecommunications device to communicate anything "indecent"- ( just what constitutes indecency? Ah, excellent question, to which an answer was never provided, laying the groundworks for massive censorship) "Whoever initiates the transmission of, any comment, request, suggestion, proposal, image, or other communication which is obscene, lewd, lascivious, filthy, or indecent, with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass an other person shall be fined under title 18, United States Code, or imprisoned not more than two years, or both." art works such as venus de vilo, the sistine chapel , and michelangelo's david would be concidered indecent. the library of congress card catalog searches will reveal "indecent" book titles, such as the adventures of huckleberry finn, the scarlet letter, upton sinclair's the jungle, sophocles' oedipus rex, hamlet, anything by jack kerouac, the catcher in the rye, and even the king james bible would all be electronicly illegal under the cda. furthermore, health resourses on the web, such as the national alliance of breast cancer organizations, the hiv infoweb ,any site pertaining to abortion information, planned parenthood on the web, information on prostate and testicular cancer from oncolink at the university of pennsylvania, johns hopkins university std research group, ect., would all be banned. social support groups would be censored as well, for example, the survivors homepage, the ontario center for religious tolerance, and the gay and lesbian alliance against defamation. entertainment websites, such as the rocky horror picture show lyric site, the jihad to destroy barney homepage, tmbg.com,and yes, even fruvous dot com, would be banned. news, governmental, and current events information would be censored, any story from the associated press, cnn, usa today, npr, etc., concerning abortion, aids, homosexuality, and many other serious social and medical concerns would be banned as well. . although the cda was declared grossly unconstitutional by the supreme court, as it violates both the 1st and 5th amendments, us senator dan coats (republican (in the american sense! insane!) -indiana) has proposed a new and just as vauge "son of cda" internet censorship bill , which places a ban on internet sources deemed "harmful to minors".....someone help us!!! these govenmental actions are an extention of the "explicit lyric" warning mentality, that is, in order to have security, we must give up our freedom. It is the role of the parents to teach their own children morals and ethics, and not that of the government, whose alterior motives are dangerous and potent. let the parent "surf the web" with his or her child instead of leaving it up to unconstitutional government censorship, and likewise, let the parent play an active role in the child's life, including awareness and participation in musical selection. instead of relying on a label, or believing it, let the parent anf child find out for themselves.perhaps what the government deems obsene is truly artistic expression. if such expression is placed in the same category as real obsenity by a sticker, then freedom is truly defeated. it is unfair to compare people who don't support these labels to the ignorant ones who believe that if condoms are not distributed, it will curb teenage sex. while it is true that these labels point out the fact that "obsene" material exists, just like the distribution of condoms in high schools acknowledges the existence of teen sex, these labels are nothing but a mere blanket, smothering both the creative and artistic, as well as the truly obsene. - -nora ************************************************************************** ******* " there's something exciting about the failure of modern technology to create a real looking fake human." - john linnell nora cohen (dot0926@aol.com) **************** ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 10 Jul 1998 14:33:31 GMT From: wahrend@my-dejanews.com Subject: Re: my Moxy Web page...
