This isn't completely related to Fruvous, but I thought I would throw it out into the open anyway. Tommorow I'm leaving for Winnipeg, where I will once again soak up 4 wonderful days at the Folk Festival there. Are there any other "ng-er's" who frequent the Winnipeg Folk Festival? If so, don't hesitate to say hello! I'll be the blond in the spaghetti strap shirt smack in the front of any Arrogant Worms set, most likely dancing and making an idiot of myself!:) -----Gabby----- "Who doesn't like being naked?!?"-Dave Matheson, "Live Noise" ------------------------------ Date: 3 Jul 1998 06:25:46 GMT From: "Arbie Fru" Subject: Re: fru-lists & the quality of fine folks on this ng 1). Fru-lists: My first thought was "Great , another thing to try to keep current on." *sigh* But really, others of you more inthe "center of the action" should decide whether or not this would be a useful tool. From where I sit I think it could be useful only if it starts getting hard to do anything useful on this ng, e.g.. heavy spamming, flame wars etc. On that note: 2) Quality of yo'all: Once again I am moved to comment on what a great caring, patient, sensitive, (and a bunch of other good things but hey I don't want to make you all blush ;) group of people you are. In the past couple of months there have been several threads involving criticisms or suggestions and each time I've been impressed by the thoughtful, considerate and yes, sometimes lengthy replies. Not one "blow-it-out-your-ear-if-you-don't-like-the-way-we-do-things-around-here." This was all brought into sharp focus for me yesterday when I decided to do some ng exploring and I thought I would check out Sarah McLachlan's alt.music. After all she lives here maybe I should know something about her and I had heard that she is pretty net-savvy so I figured it might be a fun ng. Wrong! I didn't find out anything. I saw questions being asked but no replies the most knowledgeable people seemed to be too busy flaming each other. Bad. Really bad. And rather sad. More than a little ironic considering how sensitive Sarah's songs are. They played the Edinburgh fringe festival several years ago, followed by a university tour to support Bargainville (when Warners released it here), followed by a tour of some Unspeakably Nasty pubs and clubs to support Wood. Then nothing. Seeing as the UK Fruvous following is apparently limited to myself, about five of my freinds, Matt James' girlfriend, her housemate and your good self(?) then I don't think another UK tour is finacially feasible. Mike was heard to utter that he hoped never to go to the UK again at a recent gig. (See the Louisville thread). Whether he was joking, reacting to our glorious tradition in football hooliganism or recalling the band's inability to get fast food 24 hours a day here is Not Known. My Hebrew teacher whom we took along to two shows & is next week moving back to Israel is named Ruti which sortof makes me wish they'd played it at one of her shows....
