Um, sorry to even think this, but... Wasn't Rockapella the group that was featured on the PBS show 'Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego?' ? I know that the show is completely different now, but maybe 2 or 3 years ago I remember a group by that name. Not that *I* ever watched the show, I was just flipping channels. Don't criticize me for paying attention to details on kid's shows... thanks. later, tom. PS - This is my first ever non Früvous post. Sorry. Does this mean I am a true FrüHead? Does posting to the newsgroup a non Früvous post constitute that one has gone beyond fandom and into FrüHeadiness? > > ROCKAPELLA WITH SPECIAL GUEST ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 08 Oct 1998 06:17:09 GMT From: petit_chou@juno.com Subject: Selling out? Who said anything about selling out? There are several things which I wanted to address in terms of my last post, so I'll just do it here, if you don't mind. Thomas: Yes, Rockapella was indeed that group. You remember how at the end of the show after running around on the big map the kid and the host would look up to the Sky-Cam and point their fingers in the air yelling, "*DO* it Rockapella!" Well, that was them (but, of course, you already knew that, because you watch that show religiously M-F @ 5pm. Admit it.). And they're surprisingly good. If you go onto any of the internet cd warehouses, you'll find that all the cds are imports and are, like, $40, which is a little costly to try out. Try your local library. Often, you can find stuff through inter-library loans. Speaking of the Carmen Sandiego years, there seems to be some question as to my reference to Sean's braids. JennCyn kindly pointed out that his braids were often decorated with leaf-shaped fasteners. He is no longer in the group. They have a new member, and it would seem that they parted amicably with Sean, as their official website has a link to his. Mary: I hope all works out for them as well, I just wish that Barry would grow some more hair and they would leave the lame (that's lam-eh, not lame. I can't find my accent alt command) shirts to the five-piece boy groups on MTV. Now as to this "selling out" thing tracing back to me. No no no no no no. I just said (and I quote), "They need publicity." That's a far cry from selling out. I would say. Ahem. So, in closing, I would like all of you out there to know that I *LIKE* Rockapella. I like them a lot! I'm going to the concert! I'm taking people to turn them on to a capella! I am not a bad person! Clear? Good then. But I still think that a Folgers commercial is silly. I'm also trying to prime them for a possible interview when Moxy comes to Wilmington. The morning DJ couldn't find any. So I E-mailed the station to tell them how much I loved Java Time, begging them to play Moxy Fruvous, and informing them of the Nov 11th date in Wilmington. I got back 2 E-mails. One from the DJ I spoke to, apologizing for not being able to find Fruvous and promising to keep looking and ask the station manager to get some. I also got an E-mail from the Monday morning DJ asking who Fruvous was. Like I need a gilded invitation to talk about the Lads!! Both my responses included an offer to donate CDs to the station, which will be fullfilled shortly. The following morning, I turned my radio on slightly earlier than normal just in time to hear the DJ (same one I spoke to) reading my original E-mail INCLUDING the Nov 11th date. He mentioned that it was obvious I loved Fruvous, apologized on the air for not finding them, and promised to keep looking. Guess who is showing up at the radio station at 5 am next Wednesday (Hmm, or Monday) with CDs in hand. :-) ladywench FruSpace - We came, we saw, we slept on the floor . . . (Wow, I'm glad I got my tickets. Otherwise, I'd be annoyed at this news. ;) This is pretty cool, though! They only started selling tickets on Monday, according to the woman at Folk Survivors, and there are 225 seats. I have to find it amusing, though, that my husband was told, by the aforementioned woman at Folk Survivors, "You sound so cheerful, you must want Moxy Fruvous tickets!" Of course, we went up to Claymont to that nifty bookstore to get the tickets--save three bucks, and go to a bookstore, which sounds like a pretty good deal to me. The store's actually pretty neat, for those of you near Claymont, but I think I might have startled the woman who sold me the tickets. I don't know. -I- think that jumping up and down (just a little!) is a perfectly logical response to getting the tickets.
