I'm sad I wasn't on here longer. Many years ago I tried to join but my Internet skills were weak and didn't really figure out how to be part of this group. That would've been in the late 90's. I'm lucky to have joined much later, but I'm sad I missed the lively discussions I've heard so much about. Some of you I've been lucky enough to meet in person and I hope to see you again in the future. To those I've never met but spoken with I hope our paths cross in the future. Best wishes to everyone. A big thank you to Paul for starting the list in the first place (he must be the most far-flung member I met), to Robin for taking the helm and running it smoothly for years, and especially to my long lost neighbor from up the road in Illinois, Melissa! For many of the 'silent years' it was the only oasis of Dolby activity. I'm very grateful to everybody that has made the list work over the years, to all those that contributed their energy and comments, but especially to Paul, Robin, and Melissa. While many of you are already active in the FES Forum, I realise some people are reluctant to move over, feeling it's an inferior means of communication. But as I get closer to releasing my new album 'A Map Of The Floating City', we're trying to consolidate and streamline all the 'official' sites and groups on the Net, which now are way more numerous. With the sheer number of real-time channels these days, it's getting pretty hard to co-ordinate how and when news gets out to the fanbase; and it seemed that levels of interactive communication on Alloy were dwindling to the point where Melissa was just forwarding you information from other sources. I hope you will continue to stay connected. I truly value your loyalty; but I'd much rather anyone interested enough to keep up with the news and the chatter did so by participating in the Flat Earth Society, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube etc, and other unheard-of platforms that surely will take over as the most popular down the road. And if/when there's sufficient demand for an independently run group akin to Alloy, there's absolutely nothing to stop you setting one up yourself. I have no desire to censor you or bring fan activity under my own control. If new entities emerge with their own personalities, I would welcome that. But I feel Alloy's best days are behind it, and after consulting with Melissa and others, we decided it was time to put it out to pasture. On the plus side, there's a lot of good stuff to look forward to! As you may have seen, the first of three EPs of brand new material will be available to FES members on June 12th. This follows a free MP3 of 'Love Is A Loaded Pistol', which in May encouraged a lot of new members to sign up for FES. Their views, stories and energy are already making the Forum a very lively place. Over the next few months there will be new music, graphics, videos, and lots more goodies up there for FES members only. And as former Alloy members, you'll be afforded a special status in the Forum. You can email lunesse@thomasdolby.com and, so long as it's the same email address you used on the Alloy list, she can give you a special Alloy Alumni status next to your name and icon when you post. I'll hope to see you over at FES, and at future gigs. And once again, thanks for over a decade of brilliant Alloy activity! Aside from being busy as of late, I've kind of been postponing it a bit - I'm miserable at endings. I've been here ever since the beginning, when Paul rounded us up from Beatnik/Headspace and started this crazy ride. I haven't met many of you in person. In fact, I think I've only met Thomas and Lunesse. I did speak to Mary and Stephen voice a few times, though. I hope to meet Melissa the next time she's out this way. I have so many memories - the big tape exchange, the birthday CDs, Beth's virtual shower, Robin and I confusing people, winning the trivia contest, how thrilled we all were when Thomas started making music again...I could go on for ages. We've all been through so much together - births, weddings, divorces, relocations, job changes. You name it, it's happened to someone. When we first started, I was still a fairly new mom and school was in the future. Now, in one of those cosmic coincidences, not only is Alloy shutting down tomorrow, but it's also Brigid's last day of high school. I'm not going to say everything was sunshine and roses, we had our fair share of spats as well. But as mailing lists go, this has been one of the most friendly and civilized I've ever been part of. I know I haven't been as outgoing as I could have been over the years, but I'm shy like that. Nevertheless, it's been a privilege to have been friends with all of you. Special thanks to Paul, Robin and Melissa for keeping it going all this time, and to Thomas for, well, everything. I've got a login at the website (RobynM), and I'm currently active on Facebook. My ID there is Robyn Moore and my icon's a photo of a blackbird sitting on a fencepost. Feel free to send me a friend invite - just say you're with Alloy so I don't mistake you for someone looking for a gaming buddy. I guess I'd better wrap this up - brevity has never been one of my strong points. So long and thanks for all the fish - it's been brilliant.
