So it is not the definitive end... it's more like a re-incarnation... a new life RIP Alloy. ----- Original Message ----- From: Merujo To: alloy@smoe.org Sent: Saturday, May 15, 2010 1:15 AM Subject: Alloy: Important Announcement: Alloy to Close Down Dear Alloy Friends: All good things must end, and so it goes for our beloved Alloy. Over the past couple of years, conversation on Alloy has dwindled dramatically, and, it has become largely an announcement list. With the coming EPs and new CD, TMDR's official forum - the Flat Earth Society - and its accompanying mailing list will be the go-to sources for the best, most accurate, and speediest information on All Things Dolby. Long-time Alloy member Jon Chiddick (aka "White City") and I recently joined the lovely Lunesse as co-moderators of the FES forum. When I agreed to take on that role, Thomas and I discussed the future of Alloy. Together, we determined that the time was right to bring Alloy to an end. For many years, this was a lively community with great exchanges, wonderful stories, and, on occasion, some fairly colorful conflict. But as the years marched on and the original Alloy'ed have gotten married, promoted, moved, had children, you name it, it's clearly become more challenging for folks to actively participate. As Alloy ends, I would encourage you all to gather at TMDR's official home online, www.thomasdolby.com. I know that many of you will not be able to participate actively in the FES, but I hope you will join up, if you haven't already, and sign up for the mailing list. Please note: becoming a member of the FES will be the only way to get the first of three EPs of new music. And if you join the mailing list, you won't be spammed with messages; the list will simply keep you up-to-date on new music and - as 2011 approaches - concerts, too. :) Thomas shared with me that he would be delighted to see Alloy's members come and participate in the FES. Please bring your stories and experiences with you to share with a wider group! You are the heart and soul of a very precious fanbase; you rallied around Thomas and his music for nearly a decade and a half, waiting for new music, eagerly watching and supporting his new ventures. Because I think Alloy deserves a good Irish wake - and because folks might not see this message right away - I will keep Alloy's doors open for posts until June 4, 2010. That will be Alloy's 14th anniversary at smoe.org. I would like to thank Jeff Wasilko for kindly hosting Alloy on smoe all these years. A world of gratitude to Jeff for giving Alloy a home for so very long. (And thanks to him, in advance, for making me a zipfile of the Alloy archives, 1996 - 2010.) Please stay in touch. The official mailing list is an infrequent one way communication, and I find the FES forums too cumbersome to browse on a regular basis. This is why I would like to continue a group mailing list. I plan to setup the list so that it will automatically receive postings from Thomas' blog/twitter/facebook accounts. This will allow those "lurkers" (like myself) to passively get occasional emails. - -russell milliner milliner@pobox.com http://www.tmdrfan.com/russell/ On Sat, May 15, 2010 at 10:20 AM, Russell Milliner wrote: > > Like many others, I do not always have the time to browse the forums, and > appreciate occasional emails.
