Hope you are all doing well! Melissa ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Jul 2009 15:54:01 -0500 From: Brian Price Subject: RE: Alloy: Forum note from TMDR Thanks for sharing!! I touched the website briefly last night and saw some of the complaints. It is nice to see Thomas respond, but I'm sad he felt he had to respond just to quiet some critics. I'm excited to get my two new remastered copies of TGAOW and TFE! They have already shipped from the UK and are on their way to my home. Thanks again for the update, Melissa! OK, so it's rare for me to post something I guarantee that you guys have never seen before - in fact, in 12+ years on this list, this may be the second time...? Anyway, straight to it. My favourite band (after Talk Talk, Smiths and Steely Dan) the Trashcan Sinatras, have just released their 5th album (bear in mind they started in 1987...). They are a fantastic Scottish band who have been through so many lows over the years but keep persevering to produce the most beautiful classic guitar music around. I have just received my special edition of the new album 'In The Music' which has a commemorative booklet with commentary from everyone involved. The producer of the record is a New Yorker called Andy Chase. In his notes, he writes: "(meeting the Trashcans) started one of the most enjoyable collaborations I've had in my career. I've always loved the mysterious relationships between bands and producers, especially the ones like Prefab Sprout and Thomas Dolby. I put my blood, sweat and love into mixing (previous album) Weightlifting and hoped that one day I would become their Thomas Dolby" Later he continues, while describing the live recording process, "Easy to make a rock record live. Impossibly difficult to make a detailed sculpted pop album live. Did Thomas Dolby work this way, I wondered? God I didn't think so, and that made me nervous." Anyway, please listen to the new record In The Music, or EVEN BETTER please check out/buy Weightlifting, the previous album, which has the most serene and delicately perfect pop music recorded by man on it. And they probably need the cash too... So there we have it - an on-topic posting! De-lurking again in 2021. the_copse ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Jul 2009 22:26:08 +0000 From: Subject: RE: Alloy: Finally - I have somethign relevant to post!!!!! I love the Weightlifting cd too! i didn't know the new cd was out - i'll have to look for it. I am still waiting for any of my Thomas Reissues to appear- too bad some are disappointed with the sound - I love the extras and the photos etc, those for me are the real reasons i buy reissues, as stated by others- I am content to keep the original versions and these too Graham > Subject: Alloy: Finally - I have somethign relevant to post!!!!! > Date: Wed, 15 Jul 2009 22:34:41 +0100 > From: tim@migcan.com > To: alloy@smoe.org > > > OK, so it's rare for me to post something I guarantee that you guys have > never seen before - in fact, in 12+ years on this list, this may be the > second time...? > > Anyway, straight to it.
