Last Saturday evening myself, my two brothers and our respective wives all went to see The Pogues in Manchester (UK), we were also very lucky that the support band were 'The Stranglers'. The Stranglers were excellent and the set they played made you think of those music adverts which go ' More Hits Than You Remember' - new from k-Tel. Anyway The Pogues were great I saw them many years ago when Shane McGowan was no longer a member but I am glad to say he is back- well just about - he seemed pretty much out of his tree and even fell over during one tune - the Band went instrumental for a few minutes whilst someone rushed on to help him up - he then continued as if nothing had occured. A true professional, well maybe, but reminds me of the superb Mark e Smith from The Fall, who refused to miss his gigs by appearing on stage in a wheelchair after an injury. How many of the so called major artists of today would do that just for a few hundred fans. The Pogues was my first gig in ages - in fact since Half Man Half Biscuit in Ulverston, Cumbria and before that Thomas himself in Manchester. In January I get to see the Biscuits again in manchester (about 6th time I think) - and who knows maybe another tour by Thomas when his new tunes are released - here's hoping. Best wishes all. Paul (Blackpool). ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Dec 2008 12:13:07 -0700 From: John McJunkin Subject: Re: Alloy: The Pogues From what I know, it's not a real Pogues show unless Shane McGowan is half in the bag (or maybe completely in the bag!) Glad to see his liver hasn't rebelled on him yet. jm On Dec 17, 2008, at 11:26 AM, Paul latham wrote: > > Due to recent mention that Alloy has been quiet I thought I would > mention a > recent gig I went too.
