We are lucky here in Overland Park, Kansas where we vote. It took me longer
waiting for the elevator at the voting location than it did for me to actually
go in and vote. I know Missouri voters are experiencing long waits across the
state line from us, but in Kansas it was smooth. I'm curious to what others
are experiencing from Alloy. Please share your voting story.

Don't forget to get your free Starbucks, Ben & Jerry's today and/or Krispy
Kreme donut for voting. If you live in a state with Chic-Fil-A I've heard
they are also giving away free sandwiches to people with voters stickers too.
:)

Best of luck to whomever you voted for!! I know I'm rooting for my candidate,
Charlie Brown. ;)

Cheers!

Brian

Here in Oregon, it's all vote-by-mail, with drop-off points at libraries
and such for people who either prefer not to mail their ballots or don't
get them postmarked in time. So while there will be traffic issues (not
a good day to drive to the library if you're not voting), the wait isn't
nearly as long as it would be if there were actual polling places.

Kevin and I dropped off our ballots last night, and there were quite a
few others doing the same. Not surprising, since aside from the
presidential race, we have a number of contentious measures being voted
upon.

Here's hoping you all have an easy time of voting, and thanks to Thomas
for the handy coping hints. :)

At my polling place here in Orlando, FL, things appeared to be going well.
We're using Scantron for voting. Scantron is where you fill in bubbles on a
form, then pass the form through a scanner to record the vote.

I arrived at the polling place at about 6:15am and was in a line of about 30
people. When the center opened for voting, I was out of there by 7:30am.
Not bad in my opinion.

It would be great if some clever person could set up a little vote so
we could elect our own Alloy president. I think Thomas might beat
Obama and McCain...

here in Colorado I took advantage of early voting last week .
I was gladd to see that our new touch screen machines have voter
verified paper backup. I'm worried about long lines here because
there are about 15 ballot issues to vote on . hopefully a lot of
people took advantage of early and mail in ballots

My polling place is a clubhouse room at the condo office in my neighborhood.
Unfortunately, an electrical fire thrashed the big clubhouse they normally
use, and today they're using one about 1/3 the size of the usual spot. I got
there at 6:45 a.m., and when I still wasn't anywhere near the door at 9, I
gave up for the morning. Called my boss, who told me to work from home to
make sure I didn't miss my chance to vote (very cool.) Finally made it early
afternoon and got to listen to the man behind me argue with the woman
manning a McCain/Palin table for a good thirty minutes. It was something
between Theater of the Absurd and just good old Democracy in action.

We got to vote on the possibility of early voting next time. I hope, hope,
hope, that goes through!!

I also voted early, along with a rather large percentage of
Coloradoans. I picked up the kids first and then went over -
there were lots of booths open, so they worked on their
homework in the booths next to me while I voted. (They also
peeked in on me as I filled out my paper ballot, which
must have reminded them of some of their standardized tests.)

Even though my husband and I have been trying to be very
even-handed about what we tell them about the candidates,
emphasizing the importance of doing your own research and
coming to your own conclusion, they are pretty jazzed
about the election. My second-grader son actually
spontaneously started weeping in the car recently, telling
me about how he heard that they used to make black
people sit in the back of the bus. "That's so WRONG!!!"

How far we have come...

We voted last week. Straight out of "Hitchhikers" we found our polling
place
barricaded by construction fences, barbed wire, No Trespassing signs,
down an unlighted staircase,
in a dark basement corridor blocked by an armed guard and metal
detectors.

Kudos to Thomas, Starbucks, Krispy Kreme, Ben & Jerry's, Chick Fil-A
and Babeland for getting the vote on!

New Toys, New Music from Thomas and and New President. Happy Birthday
everybody!

It was snug and toasty the other night at home when Steve and I filled out
our absentee ballots. Since I never know exactly when harvest will be over,
I've been voting that way for years to ensure I'm able to do it. I'm just
sorry I can no longer vote for Pat Paulsen because I've enjoyed watching
some of his old bits on the Smothers Brothers shows recently. One of my
coworkers and I have joked that we're going to vote for his son, Justin, who
works with us. He couldn't do a worse job than what's been going on for the
past 8 years! ;-)

Your son sounds like he's got a lot on the ball - good for him. :) It's
really interesting discovering how kids feel about things we didn't even
know they were thinking about.

Brigid's only 16 this year, so she wasn't able to vote. However, they
have been covering the election extensively in her Government class, and
we've had a number of interesting discussions about the issues. She also
sat down with the ballot measures and decided which she would've voted
for had she been able to.

I'm pleased to see her taking it seriously, as I feel strongly about
women voting, considering how short a time we've been enfranchised and
what a struggle it was.
