First, the cool stuff!

Bruce Woolley's nifty ensemble, the Radio Science Orchestra, has just
released a new recording, Memories of the Future, available for download at
iTunes: *OUT NOW [image: The Radio Science

I love the mellow cover of the Dr. Who theme. And, for any of us raised on
Gerry Anderson's "Supermarionation" shows like Thunderbirds and Captain
Scarlet, there's a great cover of the Mysterons theme and Aqua Marina. :)
Hearing the snippets on iTunes (and whole tracks on Bruce's MySpace page), I
realize how much I'd love to hear the RSO work with Portishead.

On another topic, the blog over at Wired ran this entry about the Radiohead
Remix contest (for which, voting has been extended until June 1st.) Some
folks are crying foul, and there is grumpiness about the way it's been
handled. There's the suggestion of voting fraud too, with one entry getting
9,000 hits overnight from an unknown with no apparent social network outlet:

Back to work - much paperwork to shuffle and fragile egos to coddle and
stroke.

Cheers,

Melissa

Autism, hmm? I have never been diagnosed but I suspect that I am at least
mildly autistic. And its my understanding that there are different sorts of
autism. And if I'm autistic, it must be quite different than your form.

I saw John Elder Robison who wrote the book "Look Me in the Eye" being
interviewed on PBS. The book is his side of the story of growing up with
the form of autism known as Asperger. Before that book, his brother
Augusten, published the book "Running with scissors" which was about growing
up with an autistic brother. I think I need to read both of these books as
they both sound quite fascinating. Anyway, I digress. Watching John on TV
and hearing how he talked and listening to some of his stories, I realized
that I probably have Auspergers. I probably should get diagnosed as the
only person that believes me is my mother (I can hear all the Freudian
comments already), but if I have Auspergers, its most likely mild as well.

I would guestimate that I usually have bits and pieces of perhaps 20
different thoughts running through my head at any given moment, which is why
I lack a certain amount of clarity when doing just about anything (too many
distractions in here). Music seems to be the one realm where my heart and
brain find themselves fully communicating and understanding each other. I
would suppose that all the distractions in Radiohead's music keep my brain
occupied enough to keep it all in sync, therefore, I experience peace. (I
just came up with that conclusion!) Then, my heart can get in there, fully,
and draw up images, stories, past experiences, fictions, etc. and keep them
in sync with the brain, making me happy (even if the result is depression).

I could be completely wrong on all of this but that's what I think is going
on.

Anyway, I believe that the reason why I admire Thomas Dolby so much is
because, he seems to have so many technical traits in common with me, yet,
he seems to have it all together. The emotional side of the coin is in
order for him, where I'm always struggling with that, especially when
attempting to communicate with others.

On the other hand, I believe that if I let my brain just run and I were able
to connect a computer directly to it, the result would probably be something
more like Radiohead. I can identify with it more readily. What I learn
from Thomas Dolby, is that logic to emotion continuity I lack.

today. :)
