We (NatGeo, that is) released a movie last year called "Arctic Tale" (quietly, some people here call it "Arctic Fail") that tanked at the box office. It was about cute polar critters endangered by global warming; the message was good, but the execution wasn't quite right. There's actually a scene of walruses farting that goes on about 45 seconds too long - even for kids who find flatulence hilarious. They tried to make the movie hip and urban by having Queen Latifah narrate it, and there's one scene of walruses basically walking all over each other on a tiny piece of ice while "We Are Family" plays in the background. In response to the crowding and crushing, Queen Latifah is heard to intone, "Space is a little tight, but it's all good, cuz we're family, and that's the way we roll." It just. didn't. work. In fact, it was fairly cringeworthy. (Even the opening track by Aimee Mann made me want to run and hide -- it was as if Aimee had been possessed by a bad John Denver impersonator.) "That's the way we roll" comes up a lot in our very snarky staff meetings. Totally OT (as if I hadn't already gone down that path) - Elaine, if you can, catch Joe Jackson on his L.A. date next month. The new CD, "Rain" is fantastic (I listened to the opening track "Invisible Man" over and over again on the way to work today), and he was brilliant in concert with Graham Maby and Dave Houghton. Never seen Joe smile so much before during a gig. And now, I'm done hijacking this thread and return you to the discussion of TMDR's Nude remix (which is up to #30 in the voting now.) BTW, Thomas has posted another blog entry with the rather surreal revelation that he attended school with another well-known music maker... My wife and I couldn't actually sit through it to the end. Based on the voice actor names, we had hopes for the movie. My wife loves watching movies with cute animals, and even she thought it was awful. - -Russell On Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 12:08 PM, Merujo wrote: > > On Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 12:54 AM, Elaine wrote: > > > That's the way I roll. ;) > > > That phrase makes me giggle like an idiot now.
