Yeah, I know it's been awfully quiet around here of late. Hope everyone is well and happy out there! For those of you who may have missed it, here's a bit of coolness for you - TMDR has posted to his blog a remix he's done of Radiohead's "Naked." Here's the link to the blog entry: http://blog.thomasdolby.com/?p=530 It's a really nice, mellow mix. Enjoy! After the gulls open the piece, the smooth (and somewhat bare) vocals provide a nice bridge to the bass and drums' entry. The strings then open the main vocal bit but then vanish, which provides an effective counterpoint to the ensuing minimalist approach to the song. The second time through the verse, the strings return and give a little more energy to it. There's a definite TMDR feel/overtone to the guitars that show up a little farther in (slightly reminiscent of A&H and GTME--to me, anyway). After the crescendo and peak, the piano riff and the vocals float well over the percussion and bass. Very smooth and low-key. The abrupt cutoff of the vocals is a little jarring at the end, but I've never heard the original so maybe it's supposed to be like that. A more fluid transition back into the seagulls might have been provided a slightly more cyclical feel to the song. Overall it's a good listen. I'm not a Radiohead fan, but that's only because I haven't really listened to any of their stuff. However, I just might now. - --JQ On 4/19/08 12:48 PM, "Merujo" wrote: > > Hello, Alloy folks! > > Yeah, I know it's been awfully quiet around here of late. The lurker speaks! ;) I only started listening to Radiohead recently, thanks to a friend who is a serious fan. I know, I'm seriously behind the curve. I wrote over on the Forum that I felt TMDR's use of the surf and seagulls* added a lovely layer to the poignancy and nostalgia over loss you hear in the lyrics. His mark is definitely on this mix, and It works so well. I've listened to it several times today and just *really* like it. Anyone else get a chance to listen to it yet? What do you think? Melissa **Of course, that always reminds me of "Home Town" by Joe Jackson, too. :) "So sometimes when the music stops/I seem to hear a distant sound/Of waves and seagulls/Football crowds/ and church bells/and I wanna go back to my home town..." Anyone know if that's Thomas singing or if he kept the vocals and just did his own music? The singing sounds very much like the Radiohead singer. Either that, or Thomas is an astoundingly good mimic who's missing out on a career in animated voiceover work. ;) Melissa - -- "It is amazing how complete is the delusion that beauty is goodness." -- Leo Tolstoy ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V12 #207 ****************************
