Do artists have to compensate anyone when they play someone elses music at a live show? In other words, is Thomas owed any monies from something like what Big Linda has posted on their site? I was never sure how all of that worked. With the Hollywood writers strike I guess it made me think about residuals for writing credit. Cheers. Ah, Brian, that's a question I've wondered about for a long time. Any of the musician-types on board have the answer for us? There have been times where I've wondered if musicians/songwriters might be sorely tempted to pay some bands to STOP playing their songs. "Dear Tone-Deaf Cover Band: You're really killing my song. Seriously. It's bad. Here's $50. Go buy a lesson at The Guitar Center. Whatever you do, please stop. You're making my children cry." I used to think that a lot over in Russia. Like the time I heard a restaurant floor-show band perform George Michael's song "Faith" by singing, "But you've got to have a face! You've got to have a face, a face, a face! Yeah!" ;) (I've probably told that story here before. Just call me Ms. Short Term Memory...)
