I had waited 19 years to see this show because that was the last time he played in Toronto -- and it was three weeks shy of my 19th birthday and he was playing a 19+ venue! :( Needless to say, the wait was rewarded. I'm sure his setlist hed few surprises for those of you fortunate to see his other shows on this tour. A quick rundown: 4 songs from GAoW, 2 from Flat Earth, 4 from AAmB, 0 from A&H and a few new songs as well. Did I miss anything? I'll have to pick up the DVD. And that big, tough trumpeteer perfectly matching all the female vocal harmonies -- bizarre! Right after the first song, Thomas got into trouble and his software refused to behave. But I had a feeling in the back of my head that maybe, just maybe, this was part of the show? He did use us as guinea pigs to test out his ambient version of Submarines. But we're not exactly the first to experience this. I mean, I love you Thomas but that's a bit disingenuous, isn't it? ;) Aliens Ate my Buick has to be my favourite TMDR album and boy was I pleased that he didn't gloss over it (like he did with Astronauts). Although he didn't play Budapest by Blimp, he came close to playing the perfect setlist. Perfect, if you are trying to please everybody, so I can't grumble about my favourites being missed So, Crackers was responsible for that late entry into the club? Man, if I were you, I'd have been freaking from the stress! Anyway, glad to see your perform finally. You really got the house jumping with your relentless upbeat dance rock (or whatever you call it). Being the opening band is a tough gig, for reasons you know all too well (ie. you're under the shadow of Thomas Dolby!). Sorry about all the misfortune you and band had to go through to get there. At least the your performance went off well (no train wrecks)! Those of you who haven't seen Thomas yet but plan to, you will not be disappointed. - --Keith, the other. _________________________________________________________________ Explore the seven wonders of the world http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?q=7+wonders+world&mkt=en-US&form=QBRE ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 Sep 2007 12:54:53 EDT From: Wargun2438@aol.com Subject: Alloy: Re: alloy-digest V12 #146 What a wonderful story! I'd never managed to see Thomas before, as I don't know the last time he played my home town of Glasgow. I'm glad the TTC got me there a bit earlier than I'd expected, since the usual Toronto "main act = doors + 2 hours" rule didn't apply. Shame about the merch running out, but good that the soundtrack from the DVD exactly matches that of SI, since I discovered I'd accidentally deleted the copy I'd got from iTunes. Oops. cheers, Stewart (who really does design wind farms, and pretty much got the idea from you-know-who's song. Hey, Keith! Thanks for the great review -- so glad you finally got to see not only Thomas play, but Crackers, too! (By the skin of his teeth!) I really do love that ambient "Submarines" -- I guess we all got to be the guinea pigs along the way. :) Cheers, Melissa - -- "We all have ability. I actually found your blog this morning via Technorati, so the timing on you delurking is pretty cool. :) I love the fact that you are a windpower guy -- I remember the comment you left on Thomas' blog recently. Very nice to see you out here! Melissa - -- "We all have ability. I think it's so cool you were inspired by TMDR to work in windpower. I was just thinking the other day to inquire of everyone here to share how Thomas has influenced your life and you've given it a great start! For me, there have been a lot of things, from the mundane - - taking a weather forecasting class as an undergrad to the somewhat major - traveling to England by myself when I was a very immature 23 year old to meet up with TMDR's dad whom I befriended. The best thing by far, though, has been making friends (and more than just friends - Hi, Paul!) on this list. It was funny, when I went to Australia last year to see Split Enz, the only person who made an effort to talk to me was Stellar Man from the Forum, even though I did meet up with a group of Frenz before one of the concerts! I look forward to hear other people's stories. Don't be shy! Europa P.S. Melissa, get some sleep!! P.P.S. I can't wait to hear Thomas' take on his double bill (!) with Crackers. I imagined him changing his clothes several times, trying to find the outfit he looks best in to impress Crackers...;-) On 9/27/07, Merujo wrote: > > > On 9/27/07, Stewart C.
