Very appropriately, it contains a quote from TMDR. We've seen these words before, but it was nice to see this in the context of this essay. Alloy was at the vanguard of Internet music fandom, if you think about it. It was already a community - a solid presence - when the Internet was white courier type on a black screen for most people. Most of the time, excluding a handful of virtual fistfights, some of which I participated in (or instigated), Alloy has been a very literate, very intimate, very thoughtful corner of fandom (and one that had the unusual gift of TMDR's participation in earlier times) and an appreciative forum for the creativity of the members. I miss the liveliness that Alloy had in earlier days, but that was, I know, before so many of the members had kids and had settled into careers and family lives that garner the lion's share of everyone's attention. I hope, with the advent of new music on the horizon, Alloy will experience a little rejuvenation. One of the nice lines in the essay quote from TMDR is "Music fans and musicians belong to each other." And so we do. Here's to the next twenty years. BTW, the t-shirt design contest winner will be back in place next week. If you haven't gotten me your hometown name to put on the shirt, send it to me soon, please! Cheers from downtown DC, Melissa P.S.
