I'm in 'Ouderkerk aan de Amstel', a small village near Amsterdam in The Netherlands. Our Man playing Amsterdam isn't too weird, is it? I will come for certain! Here in DC we have a handful of really great music venues and a lot of mediocre ones. I miss all the cool little clubs where I used to go to hear music in London in the 80s - Mean Fiddler, Town & Country, places whose names I can't recall (and probably are long gone), even the student union at the University of London, all hosted some great gigs. I've never been to hear any music in continental Europe (I'm not counting the folk singers who would belt out tunes at the Taganka Bar in Moscow while the contortionist performed.) What great places would you recommend for going to hear good music/new music or just hang when visiting? That goes for folks all over. What spot do you love for hearing the tunes in your neck o' the woods? If you're ever in my good old hometown, I'd recommend the Rock Island Brewing Company in Rock Island, Illinois. Great little venue. Good place to hear the blues (appropriate in the town that mythically spawned the Blues Brothers, if the liner notes from "A Briefcase Full of Blues" is to be believed.) Last time I was there, though, I have to admit it was to see Mojo Nixon, and I'd had a couple of belts before he came on stage to sing "Elvis is Everywhere." So, things may have changed over the years. :) Anton, consider Ouderkerk aan de Amstel added to the list! Cheers, Melissa - -- "We all have ability.
