[Beth Meyer Subject: Re: Alloy: The upcoming L.A. date... Hi, John; Ah, your 5-year-old son and my 5-year-old son - and particularly my 8-year-old daughter - would get along famously! My daughter insisted upon listening to the TMBG "Flood" album to go to sleep every night for the longest time, and still often chooses it or the "No" album. "Istanbul not Constantinople" is one of their favorite songs ever, and it helps motivate Eric to practice his violin :-) Two questions, though: 1. What is this TMBG DVD to which you refer? We have a DVD compendium of their music videos, but that isn't necessarily all that kid-oriented or literacy-inducing so far as I can tell... 2. Just curious - do the lyrics that your son knows by heart from the Sole Inhabitant DVD include "does the Pope shit in the woods?" While we're not all that hung up on rude words in our household, that particular line has somewhat put me off playing that version of "Airhead" for the kids (that, and the fact that my daughter's irony meter might not be sensitive enough yet for her to really get the song). Now I'm off to go check the TMBG web site for the new kids' album - thanks for the heads-up, everyone! - -Beth John McJunkin wrote: > A They Might Be Giants tour for adults OR kids would be very > welcome. The TMBG website doesn't indicate when the new CDs are coming out this year. (Hey, maybe they'll have something to say about 'em when they're at TED next month!) Have you ever had the chance to take the kiddos (Beth, John, any other cool parental units out here) to one of the Giants' kids concerts? They do at least one a year, it seems, out here in DC, along with the grown-up gigs. I've always been curious about how the kids respond to all the fun music in a live setting. I'm subscribed to their (way weird, but fun) podcasts - maybe the new material will get a little coverage there soon. One of their podcasts is where I heard the hilariously bizarre written-on-the-spot Anaheim House of Blues "venue song." And each time TMDR has played HOB Anaheim since then, I cannot help but laugh and think of the boys singing that tune. Took a day trip yesterday with another member of this fine list, and Sole Inhabitant got a door-thumpingly loud play in the car driving back from Richmond, VA. We were actually discussing All Things Dolby over some incredibly greasy breakfast biscuits in a fast food joint in a tiny Virginia town when someone's cell phone went off at a nearby table, playing the ubiquitous Nokia tone. The man is everywhere. He is watching you. ;) Just kidding. Honest. Lots of gorgeous snow here today - along with drizzling rain that will guarantee a hellish commute in the morning... Gotta go watch people walk the red carpet, Melissa Beth Meyer wrote: Now I'm off to go check the TMBG web site for the new kids' album - thanks for the heads-up, everyone! - --------------------------------- Looking for earth-friendly autos?
