One of my friends asked me a question about Dolby that I couldn't answer. You would think I would know the answer, and I was embarrassed that I didn't. The question was "When was Thomas Dolby on the charts?". I was curious as to which songs charted on the US and UK charts, and what number they achieved on each chart. Anyone know the answer so I can call him back? Thanks!!! It had peaked at #47, I believe, in the UK. Europa charted briefly that summer, and then The Flat Earth was released in the spring of 1984, with Hyperactive charting shortly thereafter. I don't think any other songs cracked the top 40. There may have been cuts from Aliens that cracked the top 200 in 1988, but other than some pretty solid airplay for Eastern Bloc in 1993, I'm not aware of anything else being a "hit" per se. Which is one of the reasons TMDR is so important to us--he is "privately owned" by us! LOL jm On Feb 22, 2007, at 2:16 PM, Brian Price wrote: > > =Hey everyone! Will the coat and the headgear still be with us, now that we're on the other side of that musical line drawn in the sand? Will there be pointy-breasted Belgian birds in the audience? I'm a very old fan of TMDR, my first memory is of hearing Europa on my local (Birmingham UK) radio station back in the autumn of 1981 and being disappointed that it didn't make the BBC Top 40. But I do distinctly remember Windpower charting in 1982 and being so proud that it was being noticed. I felt like he was my own personal discovery! I already had The Golden Age Of Wireless and had been raving about him to all my friends all summer. Hearing the first notes of Flying North was a revelation that was only surpassed by hearing the extended version of it on the B-side of Windpower. Which leads me on to another memory... After seeing that rather strange performance on YouTube from the David Essex Show I suddenly remembered a much more superior performance. There used to be a lunchtime TV magazine show called Pebble Mill at One which was broadcast from the BBC's old studio in Birmingham, and I pretty certain Thomas played windpower on it. So I just checked the dates of it's release in my battered copy of the Guinness Book of British Hit Singles. It was released late August so it would have during the end of the school holiday. If my memory serves me correctly it was a much more intimate situation. He was in the corner of the studio with his small projector screens behind him with the keyboards in front and I'm pretty sure that one of them was Henry the PPG and he had the 'Glow stick from Hell' with him. All the camera work was very straight no arty weird stuff like the David Essex show. Sadly we didn't get a video recorder till later that year just in time for Channel 4 showing 'Live Wireless' I wonder if Thomas or anyone else remembers the Pebble Mill at One performance. ... And guess what when I heard Flying North on Sole Inhabitant it had the same effect, I've even turned into a ringtone for my phone. DEAD COOL! Just moved back to Los Angeles after six years abroad. I saw BT and TMDR in Albuquerque last year, and have been a fan since I was reeeeeeeally little. This will be my first LA show, and I am so pumped. The only this as cool was scoring front row tickets today to see the Police at Dodger Stadium in June (my dad is awesome)! It's a good year for music. I de-lurked once before when I bought a pair of vintage Willson Gunner Goggles off eBay EXACTLY like TMDR's, and shall wear them to the show next month! - --Lyz On 2/22/07, Melissa Jordan wrote: > > > Hi Lyz, > > Have you de-lurked before?
