Kara, I feel your pain. Many (most?) people haven't heard the name 'Rochelle' and I can't tell you how many mispronunciations I've heard ("Michelle," "Rachel," "Richelle"). The misspellings are even worse. However, I love having an unusual name. I think 'Kara' is very pretty. As a side note, my mom wanted to name me Yana Leahlan (I don't even know how to spell that!). Thank goodness my dad put his foot down about that : ) Lastly, I had a friend in college named Dale. Dale is a girl, and marked her dorm application as such. The powers that be at our college assumed she must have made a mistake and put her in the boys dorm... However, I love > having an unusual name. I think 'Kara' is very pretty. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Awww, thank you. :^) I think 'Rochelle' is a lovely name too, very poetic. :^D I'm always *so* careful to try and get people's names right, both spelling and pronunciation, 'cause like you, I know how it feels to have someone mangle it! Oyyyy. [rolling eyes] ;^)I believe that getting a person's name right is a sign to them that you respect them as a person, because their names are part of their identities, after all. :^) By the by, if I ever misspell anyone's name in a post, feel free to shoot me. ;^) With a water gun, of course! :P ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > As a side note, my mom wanted to name me Yana Leahlan (I don't even know how > to spell that!). Thank goodness my dad put his foot down about that : ) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Stomp! Hee hee! ;^)Hmmm, 'Yana' is a pretty cool name, I think, but the 'Leahlan'...is that Scottish? Or Irish maybe? If I may ask?? My surname, Laid- law, is Scottish, and I know there are a few other Scots around here. :^) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > Lastly, I had a friend in college named Dale. Dale is a girl, and marked > her dorm application as such. Well, one good thing, anyway: at least no one ever called me 'Karl', snicker snicker. Yet. ;^) I actually got to wondering if some people on the Dolby Forum were assuming that I was a guy...I managed to start a whole big, juicy, utterly befuddling topic about my considering installing Linux, and I briefly wondered if the fellas over there were only replying to me 'cause they thought I was a guy. Then I thought, "Nah, they're probably more open- minded than that!" At least, I HOPE they are...! ;^) Say, anyone remember those silly "I'm Pat!" sketches that Julia Sweeney used to do on Saturday Night Live? Of *course* you do! Ah, that whole 'undetermined gender' thing, hmmm. I sometimes wonder if it's better for people to have names that are distinctly one gender or the other. Oh well, that's enough philosophising out of me for one day...or week...or year, hee hee... :^) Peace and incurable silliness (my own!} ;^) Kara It's All About the Music. :^) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Jan 2007 21:42:29 -0700 From: John McJunkin Subject: Re: Alloy: I'm back! :^) What's my name...? TMDR pops up briefly three times - first in a quick spot of tape at the very beginning, midpoint with a few seconds of him performing "SBMWS", and then, there he is again, closing out the piece on a high note. Nifty! Something I thought was really cool? He is introduced as "composer Thomas Dolby." Not pop star. Not MTV sensation. Simply "composer." Very nice, indeed.
