This morning is the third day in a row below 30 degrees. I'm not sure what kind of record that breaks, but yesterday was the first time it had done that two days in a row since 1978. I'm guessing that this morning makes it more like a 40-50 year occurrence. North Phoenix hit 19 yesterday morning, and most of the valley was in the low 20s. The Grand Canyon has been consistently below zero (daytime highs) for the past three days. Much in the same way that Chicago is never prepared for the 110 that we face all summer, we weren't ready for this. There have been a lot of burst pipes and power (even GAS) outages--thousands with no water or heat. No deaths attributed to the cold yet, but we have had dozens of highway accidents of varying degrees of severity due to ice. As you might imagine, virtually no-one has a clue how to drive on ice around here! CRAZY weather! jm On Jan 15, 2007, at 12:26 PM, Keith Stansell wrote: > > Global warming hasn't reached us here in Denver. It's now a balmy > 28 degrees F right now.
