I remain hopeful that it's an NPR problem (and a fix will come). Patrick, I meant to tell you earlier today: it's great to hear from you again. I'm sorry that we didn't hook up at Sunset. Maybe we'll get another chance sometime. How are you enjoying life in Texas? Happy New Year, everybody! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 1 Jan 2007 09:45:45 -0800 (PST) From: Melissa Jordan Subject: Alloy: An Alloy NYE and Radio Stuff Had a lovely Thai lunch and a nice drive around DC with Alloy's own Keith Stansell yesterday. I, of course, show off the classic locations to guests, like the "Hinckley Hilton" where Reagan was shot back in 1981. (Yeah, I'm a classy host.) There is a small parking lot called "Gravelly Point" on the Potomac, right next to the runways at National Airport. You can sit on the hood of your car and watch the passengers in the planes as the jets come down right over your heads. It's also a good spot to get panoramic shots of monumental DC. While Keith got some cool photos on the river, I watched planes land and take off in the darkness. Thinking of Johnny DeKam's excellent airport imagery, I pulled out my iPod and played "Suitcase" thumpingly loud through iTrip (and frightened some people enjoying some, uh, "adult fun time" in a pick-up truck in the next parking spot...) After parting ways with Keith, I spent the rest of NYE... sleeping. So much for a champagne send-off to 2006! - --- I wanted to share with you that I have another radio commentary coming up this Friday. Originally, I was supposed to have one broadcast on 12/22, and I was trying to figure out how to work in a plug for the TD/BT show at the Birchmere, but someone else had the audacity to write a holiday-themed piece that pushed me into the new year. ;-) So my new piece will be broadcast on Friday, January 5, 2007. It wil be at the end of WAMU's Metro Connection show around 1:50 p.m. EST. After the initial broadcast, the show and my commentary can be accessed directly on the WAMU website/show archives (same link as above.) Here's TMDR's blog entry about "Brussels": http://blog.thomasdolby.com/?p=228 About ten years ago, I came across a copy of the cassette in a shop, but I had no idea what it was and walked on by. D'oh! Can't wait to hear this vintage version of "Airwaves" - it'll be cool to compare it with the new interpretation. Coolness!
