I'm #158 on the DVD and #49 (I think, but the 9 looks sort of like a 7) on the CD. I'm just now listening to the CD for the first time and the quality is fantastic for a live show...one of the best I've heard actually. As for the DVD, the video quality is great but I was hoping it would be in 16:9 format which it isn't. The video production by Johnny is fantastic and I'm sure you will love it. In regards to the DVD sound I'm a bit unsure of how to play it. When I play it in stereo it seems muffled, but that could be my speakers too. In ProLogic Surround it sounds great on my center channel but not in the other speakers. Maybe I just need better equipment or a new receiver. Oh, that's it! I need a new receiver. Hmmm, how do I convince my wife I NEED to buy more electronics? :) EVERYONE: I want to thank everyone for the warm welcome, and I look forward to meeting some of you in the future. I've been lucky enough to meet several of you in the past and it has always been a great experience. I've made some wonderful friends and you know who you are. Off to listen to my CD. Have a great night (or day wherever you are). I'm not sure if anyone received The Sole Inhabitant on cd or dvd yet from cdbaby since I haven't seen any postings on alloy. Sometime ago, I posted that I waiting for my order and it has arrived. Actually last week, I received the autographed copy of the dvd numbered #227 and today I received the autographed cd, since it was on backorder, and I received number #223. Has anyone else received the dvd or cd yet? If so, what number did everyone get? (maybe we can all post the numbers to see who got the lowest - much like the number posting for the Forty cd some time ago). How is the sound, cd, and the visual, dvd, quality? I haven't played mine yet and was just curious (I will soon..) I'm getting a nice giggle out of the number of folks on the forum who haven't been able to completely decipher Mr. Dolby's numbers on some of the autographed goodies. 7s? 9s? 5s? I reckon his hand must have been getting a wee bit tired after a while! Walt, definitely check out the thread on the forum where Stevie D is keeping track of everyone's numbers. :-) I have #34 for the CD and #1 for the DVD. WOW, Melissa--aren't YOU cool with DVD #1!! That's really cool, and a low CD number as well. I have CD #310 and DVD #379. I'm going to dig in and write reviews of both this weekend (my first spare moment in over a week--setting up a podcasting business is HARD WORK!!) And welcome to Brian (MiniCoopGuy) from me--SomeYoungTopGun. With the notable exceptions of "Live Wireless" early in Dolby's career and the technically weak "40," his reputation is that of a "studio" artist. Nevertheless, he is perfectly at home on stage, and his one-man show in the early 80s was technically groundbreaking, in that he literally invented any necessary technology that was not available off-the-shelf. The technical restrictions foisted on him by the lack of technology did not prevent him from making magic. Fast-forward 25 years . . . time and technology march on, and Dolby is no longer restrained. The technology he uses on stage is nearly as sophisticated as that in the studio, so far less focus goes in to whether a sequencer will fire at the right moment, and far more focus goes in to delivering a passionate, heartfelt performance. Dolby is clearly touched by his fans' affinity for him, and right in his element as the focus of the very direct and personal fan-artist feedback loop newly enabled by the Internet. With an arsenal including Apple's Logic, a rack of powerful synthesizers, and an array of keyboard controllers, the unleashed Dolby is more expressive than ever, delivering elegantly updated versions of his classics. Leipzig is simply brilliant, One of Our Submarines has an ass-kicking new groove that commands the audience to dance, and the heartrending I Live In a Suitcase is beautiful. He also obligingly plays the hits, but the albums high points are Windpower, utterly fresh, powerful, and newly engaging, and Budapest by Blimp, a musical tour- de-force that showcases Dolby's formidable performance skills, and arguably among the two or three best songs he's written. The Sole Inhabitant album does four important things. It bridges a 15-year gap in Dolby's musical offerings, its a well-deserved and long-awaited treat for his original fans, its a very fine introduction to young new fans, and finally, its the beginning of the second half of Dolbys musical career after his hiatus in Silicon Valley. His touring with BT has exposed a young new group of people to his fine music, and with the promise of new material in 2007, Thomas Dolby has "etched out a future of his own design," a truly bright future at that. Bring it on, Thomas. Were ready for more . . . a lot more. There ya go!
