Christa and I were talking about it just the other day. How many other 14-year- olds are there in California with a rock-star Dad, a movie/TV-star Mom, yet wins a Harry Potter writing contest? It's dorky, and I don't mean that in a bad way--I'm talking dorky in the cool, high-IQ, gonna rule the world way that has made nerdliness a badge of honor in this decade. Indeed, if young Harper Robertson is as big a nerdly Harry Potter fan as she appears to be, that alone tells us all we need to know about the fathering skills of Thomas Dolby. Or do I need to engage in the comparisons with Lindsay Lohan or Britney Spears or Paris Hilton. I think you all get the idea. Poor thing must have been really ill, vomiting twice (!!) on the bus. Dear lord. Sometimes, a couple of drinks is all you need to flip the sick switch. I know that from painful experience. And no kidding about the camera, Beth! I think you need not worry at this point! LOL! Just remember that I'm the idiot who told TMDR I didn't understand the Russian in "Dissidents" and thought it was gobbledy gook. (Which it ain't.) What an idiot I am. An idiot with, apparently a really bad ear for a language in which I have a degree. So, don't worry - I think I win one of the "big dork" prizes in the Dolby camp. ;-) Cheers, Melissa http://merujo.blogspot.com Beth Meyer wrote: Hello, all; Wow, so Thomas has started playing Airwaves on the tour! Here's hoping you get to hear it in Baltimore, Melissa. (And do be sure to give us the scoop!) I would dearly love to hear it, as it is one of my absolute favorites, but since we've had three Dolby shows in Colorado this year, I can't quite justify being envious of Jacksonville. On a side note, did anyone notice the "TD, the Good Samaritan" thread(s) on the forum? Apparently this woman went to the concert, had a few drinks, felt ill after the concert, and went outside to sit on the curb and get some air. Thomas found her, brought her some water, invited her into his tour bus to get in from the cold and recuperate. Whereupon she threw up in the tour bus. Twice. And he calmly cleaned it up both times and got her a granola bar and chatted with her. I didn't want to comment on the forum at risk of making her feel worse than she might already feel - or punish her for being so honest about it as to share the story on a public forum - but I was struck by two things: 1. What an incredibly kind person Thomas is, and 2. Now I really, really don't feel so bad about having left my camera in the tour RV! - -Beth bethmeyer@mindspring.com Tired of spam? Yahoo! Glad you could join us. For those just joining in, we were just going on about the Thomas Dolby/Weird Al nexus, and Mr. Dolby's recent caretaking of an ill fan. You might think I was a Midwesterner or Westerner from the fact that I'm in Colorado, but I'm really a Southerner - you can tell by what happens when I get out on the slopes with my snowboard. (Typical experience: I'm lying in the snow while my Colorado-born kids, now 5 and 7, gaily wave to me as they sail past on their skis.) I'm not sure if anyone received The Sole Inhabitant on cd or dvd yet from cdbaby since I haven't seen any postings on alloy. Sometime ago, I posted that I waiting for my order and it has arrived. Actually last week, I received the autographed copy of the dvd numbered #227 and today I received the autographed cd, since it was on backorder, and I received number #223. Has anyone else received the dvd or cd yet? If so, what number did everyone get? (maybe we can all post the numbers to see who got the lowest - much like the number posting for the Forty cd some time ago). How is the sound, cd, and the visual, dvd, quality? I haven't played mine yet and was just curious (I will soon..)
