She deserves a lot of credit for letting Thomas hit the road so much this year while she stays at home with the kids. - -Keith - -----Original Message----- From: "Kara R. Not so much for his music output, but...I do understand, though, why our U.K. and European friends are still miffed over losing him to the U.S--I feel your pain. TMDR never comes near enough for me, in Winnipeg, Canada, to see him in concert either, but oh well. Some day...maybe... But 25 YEARS and you haven't seen him live, Paul? Winge away, you've every right! :^) Work gets in the way of all the *important* stuff. ;^) And you know, several Canadians [hi, GhastlyCrackers!] have begged him to come here again [some of my fellow Canucks must have seen him in Whistler when he was recording "Forty: Live" though, right? :^)] but he seems to have no plans to come back, so I for one am giving it up for a lost cause. For now, anyway. Love and tea with lime [I'm permanently bored with lemon, okay? ;^)] Kar[m]a ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, > -----Original Message----- > From: owner-alloy@smoe.org [mailto:owner-alloy@smoe.org] On Behalf Of > p1latham > Sent: Monday, December 04, 2006 4:04 AM > To: alloy@smoe.org > Subject: Alloy: Dolby in Europe - Please > > > Go on,I admit it,im jealous of you guys who have been getting to see Thomas > gigs in the US , some of you many times, but please spare a thought for us > long term fans who have still not managed to see him. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 7 Dec 2006 09:04:22 -0800 (PST) From: Melissa Jordan Subject: Alloy: The Dolby creative and academic genes continue to thrive! Don't know if there are any other Harry Potter junkies out there, but here's a cool piece of news - TMDR's daughter Harper has had a paper accepted at Phoenix Rising, a huge, huge Harry Potter conference coming up in New Orleans this coming May: http://www.thephoenixrises.org/programming/accepted/ I think that's pretty impressive, although the fact that she's clearly one smart and creative young woman shouldn't be a surprise, eh? Hmmm... five days in the Big Easy. Perhaps her dad can take her bowling on Friday morning... ;-) Cheers, Melissa http://merujo.blogspot.com - --------------------------------- Everyone is raving about the all-new Yahoo! Austin Dolby was in fine form, bouncy and downright ebullient. Vocal mix was too low for my tastes but that's because I've memorized the DVD by now. People cheered (a lot!), smiled and some danced, that is, when they weren't mesmerized by the show on stage. It's kinda hard to take your eyes off it. I'll write more later. Gotta run to get in my Karma. We're havin' Hot Sauce for lunch! On Dec 7, 2006, at 1:35 PM, Melissa Jordan wrote: > > HA! Great stuff. He started off with Leipzig - not exactly what you'd expect as a show opener, but it worked well. From then on he played cuts from pretty much every album except for Gate. Great sound mix and an enthusiastic crowd (and apparently very Dolby-aware - hard to tell if more were there for him or for BT). Thomas' voice was in fine form. He started out with a tiny bit of shakiness during Leipzig, but he got steadily better as the show went on and was in great shape all the way to the end. Had to laugh at one part - he told a story about running some solar observation data through his synths and having most of it sound like "crap." Back when I was at 3D Realms, I hooked up online with someone out at Stanford who had converted solar oscillation data into audio. I got permission to use the stuff in a game I was working on at the time ("Prey" - the early, early, early version). If you want to hear these, go here: http://soi.stanford.edu/~sasha/SOUNDS/sounds.html They don't exactly sound like crap, but they're not exactly musical either. ^_^ - -- Lee Jackson Garland, TX ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V11 #225 ****************************
