I was really happy to read in TMDR's blog that he's remastering "Steve McQueen" for Prefab Sprout. If you haven't listened to that recording (released as "Two Wheels Good" in the U.S.), hie thyself to a music store!! It's funny - I haven't listened to it in a while now, yet, just reading about it had me singing "Faron" all the way to work today. Yeah! I'm looking forward to this remastered release. I also need to swing by Best Buy or somesuch tonight to pick up 80's Hits Stripped, so I can hear the new acoustic interpretation of "Science" that TMDR did shortly before the start of the tour. Oh, heck yeah! Great lyrics, great hooks, great production values. I still think "Every other sentiment's an antique/As obsolete as warships in the Baltic" is freaking brilliant. How many pop lyricists use stuff like that? I was up on this island in the Baltic Sea off the coast of Estonia about fourteen years back or so with a friend from Embassy Moscow. I saw this little Estonian Navy tugboat chugging past and I said, "As obsolete as warships in the Baltic" and started laughing. My friend stared at me like I had a third eye. I just said, "Guess you're not a Prefab Sprout fan, eh?" - - Melissa http://merujo.blogspot.com johnmcjunkin@cox.net wrote: I'll never forget when I was 21 hearing Paddy McAloon singing "Oooooh Johnny Johnny Johnny--what are you--21?" I thought I had it in my CD collection, but it turns out that I don't. The songs Appetite and When Love Breaks Down used to get a lot of airplay on X96 in Salt Lake City when I lived there. I guess that is why I thought I owned it. Thanks to Rhapsody I can listen to it right now. I recognize some sounds on the song Bonny that remind me of the flute-like synths that appear on Mulu. I'll listen to it on Rhapsody for now, and then when the remastered version comes out I'll add it to my CD collection. I always wondered how the back-end payment structure works for Rhapsody. I pay a flat monthly fee that lets me listen to all the albums they have. Does the artist get some money when I listen to their song, or is it just some flat rate that the record companies get each month? Anyway, I highly recommend it - It's a great way to preview music before buying the actual CD. It's like a multi-million song jukebox at your fingertips. - -Keith - -----Original Message----- From: owner-alloy@smoe.org [mailto:owner-alloy@smoe.org] On Behalf Of Melissa Jordan Sent: Thursday, June 01, 2006 9:45 AM To: alloy@smoe.org Subject: Alloy: Steve McQueen! LMAO I had a similar thought. In my estimation, House is pretty much the only network television worth watching, aside from maybe Bones or Numbers, but those two have started accelerating toward the shark ramp, if you know what I mean. After the first season, Numbers lost the lovely Sabrina Lloyd and the Talking Heads theme song-- instantly eliminating half the value of the show. And the writers of Bones need to take a lesson from the writers of House on how to do sexual tension the right way! Sorry so OT--just rambling! jm On Jun 1, 2006, at 9:44 AM, keith dawe wrote: > > For a moment there, I thought you were going to talk about Dr. > House's pet rat! > > --Keith D. > > >> I was really happy to read in TMDR's blog that he's remastering >> "Steve McQueen" for Prefab Sprout. That's awesome that X96 played that stuff. I always thought I was the only DJ in the Rocky Mountains to play any Prefab Sprout! Of course, X96 was excellent. I believe, Keith, that it is the station we talked about in Hollywood that used to be KCGL--brilliant programming. I believe those "flute-like synths" come from the Fairlight CMI, if I'm not mistaken. It was a trademark TMDR sound, and I will never tire of it. jm On Jun 1, 2006, at 10:20 AM, Keith Stansell wrote: > > I somehow missed this album.
