Brown, and yes, I guess our Cory-with-the-tummy-bump [congrats! :^)] would be Europa IV. Some of my best friends couldn't spell their way out from underneath wet tissue paper. ;^) ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, > Thomas explained about seeing the L.A. blackout that prompted him to > write a love song to Kathleen, then played "I Live in a Suitcase." ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Awwww, how lovely. :^) It's so great that he's willing to open up like that... we the fans give him love, and he gives it back. :^) ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, > He gave the song the same treatment as "Leipzig," and did the spoken > interlude without the electronic distortion, which gave the whole thing a > fresh new twist. "Flying North" was preceeded by Thomas's story about > being afraid to fly because he thought the plane would fly so high that > they would break free of gravity and zoom off into space. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Good grief, I never thought of that! Thanks a LOT, Thomas. ;^) But then again, I don't think that a standard airliner could withstand the extreme heat generated by the resistance to the plane's journey through the...note to self: shaddap. ;^) Methinks that perhaps our Thomas has been riding on either the Space Shuttle or the Vomit Comet. I can explain the Vomit Comet reference for anybody who wants to know. I tend to accumulate a LOT of basically useless information, and am happy to regurgitate it at the drop of a cymbal--CRASH!!! ;^) Alternatively, one could just Google it... ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, > After that, he > told us that when he started the tour, he didn't think he had enough > material for a "proper set," so he would build up "The Flat Earth" to > give the audience an inside look at what he was doing on stage. There is just something so...warm and pure and enlightening about the way that piano part sounds. I confess--I have mild synesthesia, so I can see Thomas' music in my head, and when I hear those four notes, I visualize the curvature of the Earth {as seen from space}. So no, I guess the Earth isn't *quite* flat for me... ;^) So I don't just listen to Thomas' songs, I also watch nonexistent videos for them in my imagination. For example, "Cloudburst At Shingle Street" evokes images of a gathering thunderstorm, when the clouds are dark gray, and there is lightening on the horizon. Gawd, but I love a good thunderstorm...all that ozone... ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, > Someone again started yelling for "Field Work," and Thomas thought for a > minute and went, "Speaking of Ruichi," (I know I spelled that wrong. > Sorry!) "He contacted me the other day." GO THOMAS!! I've seen Thomas' latest podcast, and it blows my mind how perfectly sync-ed the music is with the spinning of the wind-tower blades. And it's incredible that the Sonified sound of the Sun fits right in with "Windpower". THAT is why audiences give him standing ovations--he has a gift for fitting things together perfectly. :^) With his music, I'm never distracted by believing that there's a harmony missing or whatever--it's all there, right where it's supposed to be. :^) ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, > Thomas segued that with how his new-found love of Astronomy led him to making > sonification videos of data from the sun. A sonification video of the sun was put > up on the projector, and Thomas played "Windpower." ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, See, that's what I was just typing about. :^) When things come together like that, I call it a "couldn't-you-just-die" moment--absolute perfection. Supreme bliss. :^) Could it GET any better??!?!? :^) Yes, just wait until Thomas' next gig. ;^) IF the Mac can keep up to him... ;^) ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, > He even coached us to sing along with him at parts. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, And *did* you? :^) ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, > Thomas then told everybody about how he never knew how many people like > the lesser known songs that he wrote, but thanks to the internet and > "groups like Alloy," (yes, he mentioned us by name!) he found that not > only did people like the songs, but we still have discussions about "the > opening court to 'Screen Kiss' or line...four of verse three of > 'Airwaves.'" We don't just listen to *any* old thing, you know. Pigeon holes are for pigeons. Cooooooooo. ;^) ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, > He was also surprised at the number of people to take on names of characters > from his songs.
