Curious to hear a review of the evening. :-) From the chatter on the forum, it sounds like Our Fearless Leader had a rougher, chattier (and in some cases, crankier) crowd than in other locations. I hope that last night's audience gave Thomas a better reception. (And I hope my friends in the Twin Cities offer him a very warm welcome, indeed!) I'm still smiling at remembering the roaring, delighted crowd at the Birchmere. Man they loved him... (Part 1) My boyfriend and I went to the Thursday night Milwaukee gig, and WOW! What a GREAT show! The whole evening was wonderful (for the most part, but more on that a little bit later). While Bill and I were heading up the sidewalk to Points East, I was telling him about how excited I was because I've seen all of my other favourite artists' concerts, so seeing Thomas play live was going to be really cool. Then I happened to look over at the building and said, "And if you look to your left, he's RIGHT THERE." Thomas happened to be crossing the street coming in our direction. I'm still kicking myself for being so shocked that I didn't grin and wave at him (he was looking right at us). The venue itself was pretty small, which surprised me because the pictures on their website made the concert room look at least twice as big as it actually was. But small was good, since it provided a more intiment (sp?) atmosphere. There was a pretty big crowd at the beginning of the evening, and from where I was sitting in the back, you could easily tell who was there to see Thomas and who was there just for the warm-up band. While the opening act, The Good Luck Joes, was playing, I saw Lunesse come in about half-way through the set and start setting up the merchandise table. She had everything crammed into the far corner of the room and was trying to manoeuvre around the boxes of sale items and the crowd in the tiny space she had been given to work with, so I went over and asked her if she needed any help setting things up (I wasn't listening to the opening act, anyway). She was very polite and flattered at the offer, but said that she had everything almost set up already because the stock had started running low so she didn't have much that needed to be laid out. We then chatted about the website and blog before I returned to my chair to get my purse. There were two people ahead of me in the merchandise line, and the first guy was explained about the "lucky ticket" process. Lunesse said there were four purple stamps in the cash receipt book, and four in the credit card receipts, and it was completely random if you won or not. He seemed completely cool with whether he would win or not, and he got one of the "golden tickets." I was very happy for him, and figured that I wouldn't win since my receipt would be so close to his. I wasn't going to worry about winning, though, since I would be fine with whatever outcome I would get. If I got to meet Thomas, that's great! If not, that's fine, too. Then the second guy in line didn't win, so I figured I definitely wouldn't. As Lunesse wrote up my purchase, I mentioned that I had heard rumours about a DVD release, to which she grinned and replied, "Yup!" So I asked about the possibility of sheet music. Lunesse said that she thought sheet music had been released a really long time ago, but there were no current plans for any. (Drat! I guess I'll just have to sit down and try to figure out the awesome keyboard part for "Flying North" by ear...) I picked up a copy of "Golden Age of Wireless" (Lunesse said that they could only carry the EMI label releases for merchandise) and a signed copy of the tour poster. I was handed a copy of my credit card receipt, and to my complete shock, there was a purple stamp on the back! It was totally unexpected since I really didn't think I had a chance. I guess good karma can really come back around, huh? That's about it for the "pre-Dolby set" highlights of the night. I'll post my review of the concert, the crowd reaction, and the meet and greet as soon as I get home from work. I hope everyone had fun at the Friday night show! Cory (aka. From about the first time that happened a few shows in, people liked it. They came backstage and said 'You did that on purpose, didn't you?' I said 'Are you crazy?' They said they thought I did it to build tension. I think the term I used was "Dramatic Tension" - I suggested he do it on purpose if it wasn't already. - -Keith ------------------------------ End of alloy-digest V11 #132 ****************************
